Pre-race routine:

Later morning race but tried to keep the same routine. Ate 300 calories 3 hrs prior with Boost/coffee/RK treat. Sipped on 20 oz G2 with nuun. Went to the BR but felt tight. Stretched the best I could-several times. Light rain but it eventually stopped. Was very cold-initially in the high 50's but 'warmed up' to ~60 by race start. Gloves/hat/sweat pants and rain jacket wasn't even enough-had toe warmers also...
Event warmup:

Walked to packet pickup with my bag sipping G2. Got my bib and had to pin it on as I forgot my race belt. Also forgot my inhaler and didn't realize it until later. Jogged and walked and did a very few strides. Stretched again and a few more strides. Felt much looser by the end.

Comments:

Well, that hill in the beginning sucked the life out of many but most people were grinding as hard as they could-and I was one of them. Could hear the faint wheeze by the time I got to the top and as I started down, I got a bit worried bounding down thinking I might reinjure my R hip/heel. Fortunately, I did not feel any pain during the race-only after. That's what ice is for anyway, right?
What would you do differently?:

Pre-drive the course to remember the layout.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking back to the car counts as the warm down for me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hills.

Event comments:

This was really a great race with tons of volunteers and the RD was so upbeat trying to give a positive spin on his 'favorite hill' in Tolland. I enjoyed the challenge and now that I remember it-will pass on doing it again. It was that hard. Saw a lot of kids and many of them had terrific fitness to be able to run this. Crazy to be hyper-ventilating and struggling to breathe with 2 kids about 10 years old right in front of me carrying on a conversation about their expected finish time. Ah, youth...Two thumbs up overall.
