Overall Rank = 91/159
Age Group = M 60-64
Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30, had an English muffin to get some calories. Out of the house. little late, about 5:55am.
Event warmup:

Standard: setting up transition, getting gear ready, checking out entrances and exits, etc.
Swim
  • 07m 35s
  • 275 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had to wait for a couple of guys to climb out before I could exit. Got to the ladder at 7:19.
What would you do differently?:

Should've hopped out of the pool at lane's end instead of waiting for the ladder...would've beaten 1:24
Transition 1
  • 03m 43s
Comments:

Transition began as soon as we exited natatorium and includes the quarter mile run to the transition area, accounting for the extended time. Actually surprised it came out as good as it did. Jogged most of the way to my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...pretty good.
Bike
  • 34m 48s
  • 10.25 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike leg, though not without discomfort due to the wind...seemed like no matter which direction we rode we were into the wind. Except the northbound leg toward the bike entrance, and there was an incline there. Spun briskly on first loop except the Ridge Road portion, on which I really pushed. On second loop, I pushed hard for five minutes, spun for two, etc. On final northbound leg I let the terrain dictate...didn't want to push too hard right before the run.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder on first loop.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

My rack required coming through full length of transition, still came out better than I'd have expected.
What would you do differently?:

Get there earlier and find a better rack!
Run
  • 36m 4s
  • 3.25 miles
  • 11m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

Runs have improved as chest issue has declined, though still much slower than previous. Still, given challenges over the last several months, running at an 11:06 pace feels almost miraculous. Followed my standard run/walk race protocolrace protocol, with a few extra "pushing" periods sprinkled into the run legs.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder on the regular running during run intervals.
Post race
Warm down:

Bottle of water, a donut, walked around. Can't be beat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Challenges on run.

Event comments:

Really like this race and the course, except for that long transition run. Bike course and run course and solid.
