Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Rode 3 miles to ensure the bike was ready, drank some water, swam about 20 yrds. Just loong enough to pee.
Swim
  • 20m 24s
  • 1200 meters
  • 01m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim went OK. Not great, not terrible. Navigation was OK. out of ~150 who did the 1200m swim, I had the 12th fastest time, although I felt like I never pushed. Only slowed down on the second loop by about 15 sec, so kept it pretty steady, and had some left in the tank.
What would you do differently?:

could have pushed a little harder, not too much, though.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

went pretty smoothly. Ran well up from the water, got swimskin off easily. Shoes on and ran out. No real issues
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 31m 22s
  • 32 kms
  • 21.01 km/hr
Comments:

Ride went pretty well, other than I don't trust the power meter at all. Felt like I kept it at the redline almost the entire way, with pretty consistent laps, only 25 sec slower on loop 2. The PM had me at a NP of only 173 with an IF of 0.619. Averaged 21.3mph. Looking back on prior races, I did each lap in about 43:45 or so, so not a huge drop off by doubliong the distance. Pushed hard the last 2.5 miles coming over the spillway back into the wind. Did a good job of staying aero for the vast majority of the time. Got passed by 3 people on loop 1 and 3 on loop 2, but had the 24th fastest bike split overall.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. I felt like I rode a very smooth ride at a consistent race pace. I actually thought I'd be closer to 22mph, but don't feel like I leflt much at all in the tank
Post race
Warm down:

Was able to sneak bike out quickly. Went back to the car, changed closthes, walked back to geta bite to eat and watched for 20 min or so. Then drove back home, stopping at Bucee's and Krystal

Event comments:

Very good, beginner friendly race. Have done this race several times and it's always well done. Easy swim, good transition area/location. Bike is flatter than I'd prefer, but it's nice to stay in the big ring and stay aero the whole time. PostRace is always excellent, too.
