Lake Geneva Triathlon Series

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 48m 58s
Overall Rank = 57/469
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 10/54
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race a little later than I would have liked, then had to wait in line for race registration for about an hour, (idea for race director have a registration at a sight in Chicago sometime before the race, most of the people are from Chicago and Steelhead managed to pull it off why not Lake Geneva.)
Event warmup:

Put on wetsuit and chatted with Sweetie and another friend of ours.
Swim
  • 17m 28s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swam pretty well with the crowd never really had a chance to open up, but then again I am probably not in good enough shape to open it up, so it was probably a good thing.
What would you do differently?:

Train more I think I have swam about 3 times since Steelhead and that definately limited my ability to swim hard, I think in proper shape I could take about 2 minutes off this time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Because of our late arrival we had about a spot as possible, that being said I commited to the shoes on the bike running start thing and did it though I haven't practiced since Spring I think I did alright especially considering that the Bike didn't really begin until about 3/4 of a mile into it as we were pretty much restricted to a coned in bike lane.
What would you do differently?:

Practice this more, definately took a while to get up to speed and then into shoes practice this and I might gain 10-30 seconds.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 10s
  • 17 miles
  • 16.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Last year my bike time was about the 51st percentile of my age group this year 27th so I think that is a pretty decent improvement, especially considering my traing as of late. There were a lot of people that didn't know the rules or how to be curteous on a bike which was a bit of a pain but that is this race.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Had the bike course been as advertised (17 vs. 20 miles) I think I would have made up about 45 seconds on the guys in front of me, or they wouldn't have been able to put those 45 seconds on me.
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

Again the attack of the long transition, I think that a better spot would have shaved about 30 seconds off of this time
What would you do differently?:

Get to the race earlier
Run
  • 23m 29s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

This is actually a disspointment from last year 7 seconds slower, same course and I was really hoping to show some improvement, but I think again a lack of training in recent weeks limited my perfomance. I know that I can do this at least 30 seconds faster. I am still hoping to have my perfect race. Based upon what I know about my self I think I could have easily done this race about 4 minutes faster if I had just kept up with my training over the last 4 weeks which would have been good for 7th in my age group poised for a possible top 5 finish next year.
What would you do differently?:

Train more and more smartly.
Post race
Event comments:

They need to fix the registration process other than that I would never do anything other than a sprint at this venue just too much going on I felt really bad for the Half people as the transition area was a mess when they were finishing
