Swim
Comments: Started in last "beginner" wave - won't do that again! Got stuck in the mix of people who just didn't know what to do, so my start felt really slow. Had a hard time getting around people doing the breast stroke or just generally freaking out. But once I got going, felt great and really calm. Not bad, considering I couldn't swim in OW just two months ago! What would you do differently?: Start in a faster wave and get going with my freestyle stroke MUCH more quickly. I don't know how to do this, though - my breathing and heart rate are so elevated when I start the swim, I have a hard time doing a good freestyle stroke with bilateral breathing and decent form. This is my MAJOR goal for next season - starting the swim confidently and consistently, without needing 100+ meters to get my act together! Transition 1
Comments: I had a bit of a hard time with getting the full wetsuit off my ankles, especially with the timing chip. But I didn't sit down, and I didn't waste time. Almost forgot my race belt, which slowed me down a bit. What would you do differently?: It was warm enough to not wear the full wetsuit - and a shortie would have made the T1 so much faster. But this was my very first race, so I think I did ok. Bike
Comments: I wish I knew what my rank was for this event! What would you do differently?: Nothing - felt great. Didn't push too hard, but pedaled the entire time! Transition 2
Comments: I don't have bike shoes, and my race belt was already on from T1, so I didn't have much to do here. Yippee! What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I actually had fun here. Couldn't believe how many people I passed and how many people - women AND men - were walking! I surprised myself by my pace. What would you do differently?: Nothing - I am really proud of my time here! Post race
Warm down: Walk around, drink Gatorade, chat with people. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mainly experience. Also, starting too far back in the swim wave. Event comments: A great first triathlon. Probably not challenging enough for someone much more experience than myself. I loved it, though! Last updated: 2006-09-11 12:00 AM

Racked bike, checked out swim course, listened to mp3 player while stretching and focusing on event.
Jogged about 1/2 mile - tried to warm up without wearing myself out before the swim.
