Sunny
Total Time = 1h 39m 5s
Overall Rank = 169/215
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 10/11
Pre-race routine:

Arrived at race around 8:30. Set up bike at transition stage, towell, running shoes, socks. Next time, bring 2 towells, leave running shoes and socks outside of doors by pool with towell, unless I have bike shoes. run barefoot to trans. areaa.
Event warmup:

Light stretch.
Swim
  • 11m 23s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pool swim. First half of swim I was faster than group. Felt good, tri suit somewhat constrictive on breathing.
What would you do differently?:

Wait til later group to see if I could get less people in lane. I was catching people in front but there was no where to go.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

Pretty decent transition.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster
Bike
  • 52m 52s
  • 13 miles
  • 14.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Clearly obvious I needed to either rent or buy a road bike. The problem I had was that my bike is an older mountain bike. Going down hills, I maxed out the gears, meaning I could not get any power. The wheels were traveling faster than the gears would allow for. Going up hills, I would likewise turn the bike to the highest gear, which was to hard sitting down, but not enough tension to stand up.
What would you do differently?:

I might have pushed myself a bit harder, as I felt pretty good getting off the bike. My concern was that I wouldn't have anything for the run. It goes without saying that I will never ride a tri again with that mountain bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

I did not have to take bike shoes off and change into running shoes, as I used my running shoes for the bike. Pretty easy transition. No problems racking bike. I had a gel shot and some water.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster!
Run
  • 30m 49s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Way too slow. Very disapointed in my run time. I felt fine running, sort of tired from the overall event. Didn't seem like I could have pushed myself to go faster for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder on the run. I knew the run was going to be the toughest part. I will do more speed work the next time. Push myself harder. Try and find someone to pace off of.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretch, drink water, eat chipolte

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Using a mountain bike, and a terrible run.

Event comments:

I would have liked to see mile markers on the bike and run. Especially the run. They had one lady telling the runners 450 meters to go, but that was it.
