![]() Swim
Comments: Gross pond..no visibility, but somehow I felt terrific. Got out towards the front, which I usually don't do, but held my own and didn't get elbowed or kicked at all. By the halfway point I had passed two guys from the wave before us (they started 4 minutes earlier) and really felt like I was breezing along. Right before the exit I passed two people from the wave that started 8 minutes before us. I looked up and saw only a few women from my wave exiting...I WAS IN THE TOP 10! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Felt smooth and great. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Transition was really only about 32 seconds. Timing the run from the swim exit to the actual transition area entrance was about 1 1/2 minutes. What would you do differently?: Maybe run a bit faster from the swim exit to the transition area, but I was happy with everything. ![]() Bike
Comments: Just went by how I felt. Wasn't worried about speed, just picking off the person in front of me and remaining comfortable. One little altercation in the park about 1/2 mile from T2 where a I was overtaking a slower racer on her first lap just as a puddle was coming up and she swerved hard WAY TO FAR OUT as I was passing her and almost hit me. Fortunately I was able to scream ON YOUR LEFT and she straightened out. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder if I felt motivated to, but I wasn't today! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Only one little issue with that. My rack was the first one on the left on entry to the transition area, and there was someone else who came in just to my left and I had to get around him. ![]() Run
Comments: Felt very comfortable and within myself. Wasn't trying to break any speed records. My only goal, since I was so far ahead of a few of my real competitors coming off the bike, was to not let them catch me on the run. Beat them both! What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Did some jogging, about 5 minutes worth or so, and a little stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of speed! Event comments: I just entered this race two days ago...not because I wanted to go out hard, but between trying to sell the house and teenager issues, I've been under a lot of stress and wanted to enjoy myself. I had no plans on doing well or anything like that, I wasn't nervous at all. I was even standing at that start corral talking with someone when I realized the announcer was counting down 5 seconds to start! I guess I do better when I'm under stress! Got some coffee, stretched a little, watched the weatehr channel. Then Packed up the van and drove down.
Biked around a few minutes just to get a feel for entry and exit from the transition area. Then did a little running, including to the swim exit to follow it along the long path to the transition area. Shortly before the swim start I swam for 2-3 minutes.
