Swim
Comments: We had to do two laps, the first went OK - waited about a minute to get around the first buouy (spelling??), but went allright. The swells were getting bigger towards the end of the first loop. When I looked at my watch after the first loop I realised that the current was stronger than I thought. The conditions just worsened during the second lap. Swells were so big that you could not see the buouy most of the time. The current also kept on pushing you off course. Fun! But all in all I think I did good! What would you do differently?: I would do some training in the sea before my next sea swim. Transition 1
Comments: I did not worry too much about transitions - I was there to finish, nothing else :) What would you do differently?: Nothing I can think of right now. Bike
Comments: I struggled to keep my HR under 80% during the first lap - all the excitement of IM!! Was looking out for my hubby, since I am the stronger swimmer he would have to catch me. Was not too worried when I did not see him on the first lap. The second lap I managed my HR better and tried to stay between 75% and 80% max. Saw my hubby and he was gaining on me - everything going according to plan for us to run together. The third lap was allright, had some stomach cramps from the energy drink, but it soon went away. When I saw hubby at around the 140km mark he was not looking too good, said that he had blown - was going too fast to try and catch me! I was soo worried that he would stop! I told him that I will be waiting for him at T2. I just thought that we had come soo far together, I would hate to finish without him. I slowed down considerably, hoping that he would catch me (ave speed before slow down around 28km/h). He did not. Waited for him at T2 for 45 minutes! What would you do differently?: Take my own nutrition, especially energy drink. Transition 2
Comments: Was dancing on the beat of the music at T2 whilst waiting for Hubby. He was soo tired and had miscalculated the time we have to finish. When I saw him I immediately told him that we have enough time to finish and gave him little time to quit :). Luckily he decided to continue!!! What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Once again three laps (of 14km this time). The first lap went surprisingly well, and we managed to run almost the entire lap. During the second lap Hubbies calves started to give him problems and we ran 2 lamp posts then walked 1 and so forth. On the last lap we could only walk... It was kind of disheartening when you saw people finishing and knowing you had more than 14kms left :(. But the important thing is that we finished!!!!! In time!!!! Actually, with 50 minutes to spare :). What would you do differently?: Run more, I guess... Post race
Warm down: Huh?? What limited your ability to perform faster: I guess we really only trained to finish, so if I want to be a lot faster I would have to train more and differently. I could have done better if I did NOT wait for George, but I do not regret having done it - what fun would it be to do 15 hours and him not finishing?? Event comments: The spectators were just amazing - they were cheering for us at 11 at night!! Last updated: 2006-09-18 12:00 AM
