Swim
Comments: The water was freezing! I couldn't breath, and neither could most of the other people. Tons of people just water-walked the whole thing. I kept shoving my head under to try to get used to it and ended up swimming a chunk of it anyway. What would you do differently?: Well, I'd like to say that I'd warm up in the water. But, I'm not sure how that's possible given the start conditions. Transition 1
Comments: This was a decent transition. I remembered to peel my suit while running and had my cap and goggles off before getting to my bike. What would you do differently?: I still need to learn to bike and run without socks. Bike
Comments: This was a really hard course, and I was doing it on a crappy bike. I ran out of gears pretty quickly on those hills, and did a fair bit of standing to compensate. I'm happy that I never had to get off and walk, though. What would you do differently?: This was my last tri on the old bike. Next time I'll have a new bike! Transition 2
Comments: Screaming fast transition - fastest in my age group. Of course, I don't have bike shoes, which helps a lot, eh? Run
Comments: Considering the number of hills, and how much I burned my legs on the bike, I'm actually okay with the run. What would you do differently?: Don't burn out the legs on the bike so I can run faster. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Walked a bit and drank a bunch. Waited for Siri to cross and cheered her on. My husband showed up and we hit the road. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'd been battling a bug all week and had done zero training this week. So, I was pretty stiff going into the race. I should have tried to go for a quick run in the morning to loosen up or something. Event comments: It was a fun race, regardless of the weather and how hard it was. I said it was "just right" because I can't really say it was too hard, since I finished without walking or anything. But, it was a smidge harder than I would have liked on this particular day. Got up super early, and drove through the rain to get to the race. Stopped twice - once to get coffee which I didn't drink and once to get some garbage bags to try to keep my stuff dry when the rain came. Had a big bowl of shreddies when I woke up, which ended up being 4 hours pre-race. Didn't bring more food for pre race, which I regretted. Did drink some sports drink, though.
What warm up? We weren't allowed in the water once the race started. So, we shivered for 45 minutes until our wave went off, does that count?
