Pre-race routine:

6:15am Cranberry breakfast pie, orange smoothies and homemade whole wheat bread (bed & breakfast). Kelli (B&B hostess) was up early making breakfast for 7 of us running the half marathon/marathon. Couldn't ask for a better breakfast, and since it was 2 hrs & 45 min from the race start, didn't worry a whole lot. Got out to Eric's van, and the front right tire was flat. Kelli let us borrow her son's car to get to the bus pickup. Picked up Steve at the Best Western, parked and easily onto the bus.

Greatest part of the bus ride was watching the marathon buses take a left turn half-way to the half-mary start. Scotty, Eric, Steve and I grinning from ear to ear knowing we didn't need to run a marathon today!
Event warmup:

None. Sat in the 'warming house' waiting for the race to start. Lines to the porta-johns not long at all.

Comments:

Race start a little crowded. Wanted to be at about an 8:30 pace at the start, but ended up running the 1st mile in 9 because of the 'traffic.'

Spent the next 4 miles trying to get back to target pace. Don't think I ever got to my target pace (8:10), but then again, I didn't really care. It was beautiful run and a great weekend with my wife and friends.
What would you do differently?:

More intensity on longer runs. Kept up on my speedwork and tempo training, but my long runs weren't long enough...
Post race
Warm down:

Finished hard. Grabbed a space blanket and some water and cookies. Changed into dry clothes, and waited for Eric to come in...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training...

Event comments:

Great race! Will do it (or the full) next year...

Course: Beautiful course! Most of the leaves had already fallen, but there were still quite a few golden leaves along the run. Trees on both side of the trail (old train track bed). It was like running through a canopy through the whole course.
