Run
  • 2h 03m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

1. Take the humidity into account (never really looked at this in the weather forecasts).
2. Just wear a singlet instead of an undergarment
3. Take more advantage of the fast downhill start
4. Organize my HR monitor in advance to help monitor the pace more effectively
Post race
Warm down:

Just a little walking and some stretches; I should have done more but really felt too tired to move.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Losing track of my pace in the middle stages of the race

Event comments:

The course was a little more challenging than I expected but overall I was really pleased with this as my first ever half. I did much better than I thought I would ever do.

Performance: Good
Forerunner was always going to have trouble with the heavily forested areas, but stupidly I didn't change it over from automatic to manual. So I only have reliable pace data for the first couple of miles. 8.53 and 8.57. Very pleased because I kept my HR right on the 4.0 line for most of the race. My halfway split was 58.25. I ran the last 1.1 miles in about 9 minutes, which I was very happy about given the uphill terrain.
Course: More rolling than I had expected. The "big" hill at mile 3.5 wasn't really much to write home about, but the rolling terrain was more wearing than I thought. The humidity was intense, and this made the track slippery in parts. The last two miles were a gradual uphill which wasn't steep, but it stopped a lot of people in their tracks and it was quite an effort.
