Pre-race routine:

Set my alarm for 5:45. I had my clothes set out, but was preparing for rain as thunderstorms were predicted. I decided on 3/4 length pants and a short sleeve shirt with a long sleeve over it. Ate a banana with peanut butter and part of a luna bar. Had a few sips of coffee and a little water.
Event warmup:

Trouble getting to a parking spot as there is so much construction downtown, plus there were lots of streets blocked off for the race. Finally went down a one way street the wrong way briefly to get into a lot. Headed to the start to meet up with Kelli and Frank. Angela, Doug and I were all together. Used the bathroom and then tried to jog around a bit to warm up. Doug headed back to the car to change shirts and I ended up sending my long sleeve shirt back with him. Rain chances seemed to have passed and it was warm.

Comments:

Angela, Kelli and I started out the first few miles together then Kelli dropped back a bit. She ended up passing us and finished about two minutes ahead. Angela and I ran the whole way together and overall I felt good. The only thing I ate on the run was a tootsie roll that someone was passing out on the side. I had still never experimented with gels or other nutrition on the run and was afraid to try that on the day of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I wished I would have spent more time warming up and stretching as I felt like my legs started to tighten up a bit during the race. I also would not eat quite as much the two days prior to the race as I felt so weighted down. This was my first half mary and I think I took the carbo loading to the extremes. I need to try to work on the nutrition part of fueling myself during the run even though I don't feel hungry when I run. I think that would give me additional energy.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, called my mom as she was supposed to be at the finish line with our 3 kids. We saw them cheering for us around mile 9, but due to all the people downtown, they did not make it to the finish line by the time we came in. Doug ended up taking the kids, while my mom and I headed out to find my dad on the marathon course.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not good enough nutrition planning perhaps, but overall I was pleased with my performance for my first half. The wind gusts of up to 40-50 miles per hour at the end of the race didn't really help much either. I hope to get faster and would like to work towards an avg pace of 10/mile.

Event comments:

It would be nice to have more support along the course, especially in the neighborhoods.

Performance: Good
My average HR was 159 which I felt pretty good about. I didn't wear my Nike + on the course so I don't have any info on pace of various miles.
Course: The course was good. There were a few hills along and some rough streets, but overall I thought it was completely manageable.
