Pre-race routine:

Had a bagel and coffe at home and made my way down to Enumclaw. It's nice driving at 6:30 on a Sunday morning with no traffic.

Soon as I got on I-5 I could see Mount Rainier clearly in the distance and I knew it was going to be a great day.
Event warmup:

A short little jog and about 5 minutes of swimming to get used to the water.
Swim
  • 34m 49s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim for me. I kept up my pace and did a half decent job of sighting.
What would you do differently?:

More practice. My fear of the open water swim is over.
Transition 1
  • 03m 42s
Comments:

Took way too much time to get my wetsuit off. Need to practice on that during swim training.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 59s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.12 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. I need to work on keeping up my speed on the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

Went back to shoes with laces. Lost some time but my feet were much more comfortable
What would you do differently?:

Look for a good zip lace that I like.
Run
  • 1h 04m 38s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Boy did I suck on the run. My knee had been huring for a few weeks so the only running I had done was during the Kirkland sprint the week prior. My feet went numb and stayed that way for most of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I needed to take it easy on my knee so I'm not that disappointed. With the knee injury I probably wasn't in shape to do an Olympic race but it was fun none the less.

Next season I'm changing my name to brick, because I'll be practicing them every week.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of water and some gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Conditioning and knee injury.

Event comments:

I thought the race was great. Such and awesome location with great views of the mountains. The bike section had some great country roads that I would love to ride on some practice runs. I can't say enough about this race but most all......Wait Till Next Year....
