Swim
Comments: Froze up on swim. Couldn't get breathing down and couldn't get out of the crowd. I finally felt comfortable in the last leg of the swim, when I really got my head down and got into a rhythm. What would you do differently?: Warmup. Transition 1
Comments: this was generally a good transition for me. Putting on the shorts slowed me down, but for now that is 30 seconds I'm willing to lose. What would you do differently?: nothing. Bike
Comments: I went hard on the bike since it's my strongest event and my chance to makeup time. Amazingly, it didn't feel like I was working too hard. (But then I flatered on the run, so who knows...) What would you do differently?: I'm not sure that my run would have been much better if my bike was slower, so I wouldn't change that. Just more running training (and more practice with tired running). Transition 2
Comments: I'm not sure why this transition took so long. I guess it was changing my shoes. It felt fast, but apparently not! What would you do differently?: Practice this transition? Run
Comments: I had trouble breathing and ended up with a stitch around 1.5 miles. It didn't really go away, but I kept going (I was NOT going to walk!). I somehow finished with 9:32/mile pace. What would you do differently?: More bricks with hard bike to run. More speed training. Post race
Warm down: Walked around until HR came down, guzzled water & had a luna bar. Stretched a bit, then took a hot tub later to loosen me up! What limited your ability to perform faster: breathing in swim. breathing in run. Event comments: Shadow Cliffs is not the prettiest park around, but I don't need a wetsuit for the lake, the bike course is fast, and the run is relatively flat. Last updated: 2006-10-02 12:00 AM

Woke up @ 5:30am, showeered, ate 2 eggs scrambled & english muffin. Also coffee. Bike rack was already on night before, so just threw bags in car and put bike on and left ~6:10am. 40 min ride to Pleasanton. Plenty of time to set up transition, go to clinic & get numbers. Picked up a belt for my number.
10 minute jog, but didn't do warm up swim. I regretted this when I hit the water! My lungs seized up a little and it took awhile to hit my stride (hence my swim time was about 1 minute slower than I think I'm capable of.)
