Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45am-yuk! Had a bowl of Irish steel cut oatmeal-yummy. Sipped on some infinit, checked the weather and headed out. Set up in a good transition area-as close to the bike exit as possible. Negoitated the release of the hostages and attended the pre-race meeting.
Event warmup:

Jumped on the bike for a 10 min warm up. Felt really good and relaxed. Took the 15 min walk to the swim start-jogged for about 3 mins. Stretched and did some deep breathing exercises.
Swim
  • 18m 48s
  • 660 meters
  • 02m 51s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt really good through out swim. This swim can be a challenge because of the setup of having to run inbetween each of the 4 lagoons. 1st lagoon went well, sighted well, couldn't get in any real good drafts. Everytime I got on someones feet, they seemed to veer off-or was it me veering off? The second lagoon was ok but my googles fogged up pretty good and it was hard to sight, took them off at the end of the lagoon and cleared them and that helped. The rest of the lagoons were pretty much uneventful except when I got squeezed between 2 swimmers towards the end of the 3rd lagoon, no biggy just slowed and let them pass. The last lagoon I felt pretty good and felt like I was moving really well, felt like my heartrate was pretty high coming out of the water, but I felt good physically.
What would you do differently?:

I need to push harder in the water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

I had a problem getting my left shoe strapped. The strap came out of the doohickey and I had to rethread it and it just took longer than I wanted it to. I have practised this, I guess I need more practise.
What would you do differently?:

Get my shoes strapped faster.
Bike
  • 57m 45s
  • 18.6 miles
  • 19.32 mile/hr
Comments:

After the slow start getting the shoes on I settled into a pretty good pace. The 2nd or 3rd mile has kind of a longish uphill segment that can be kind of slow. Once through that I was feeling pretty good. Working on accelerating out of the turns really helped. I pumped really hard out of each turn and not only passed people each time but, also got back up to speed really quick.
What would you do differently?:

Need to press some more on the bike. Also, need more eat a little more and have a little more water. Ran out with about 4 miles to go.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Pretty good tranistion. Don't think could have gone too much faster.
What would you do differently?:

Have gps on already-used it on bike-had it mounted on handlbars.
Run
  • 40m 14s
  • 4.5 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt about the best I ever have coming off the bike. Felt strong and in control. I just wanted to crack 2:00 at this point and didn't think it was going to be much of a problem. At about 2.8 miles I started to slow down and couldn't get the speed back up untill the final minute. Ended up missing the 2:00 by 9 seconds.-blahh! Finished pretty strong and was happy with that. I think my problem came down to not getting quite enough nutrition on the bike-should have done some on the run. Had it with me, but made the rookie mistake of not taking it in cause I was feeling so good through the first half of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Better nutrition, keep fueling up even when feeling good. Push myself harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Just sat around taking in calories and trying to stay cool.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nutrition was slightly off. Training was pretty weak the last 10 days.
Overall really happy with knocking 13:45 off of last years time.

Event comments:

Great race, pretty well organized. Need more aid staions on run. Other than that well run. Tons of food and drink at finish.
