Pre-race routine:

6am wake up. Gathered my stuff in the dark and went to the family room to get dressed to avoid waking my wife. Made a small pot of coffee and had some peanut butter on saltines.

Drove to the race with K.
Event warmup:

Port-a-potty visits were it for a warmup.

Comments:

The weather was great. I ran in my long tights and a long sleeve dri-fit shirt. I would have been fine in shorts but it was nice to have the extra material while waiting for the start.

This run was a training run for the Disney Marathon in Jan so I was trying to hold back a bit and run in my comfort zone.

The start was crowded and didn't get better until the 6k runners split off. The first mile or so was spent dodging walkers and runners with turkeys on their heads.

Once the crowd cleared we were able to settle down into a groove and pretty much stayed in it for the whole run. I made a port-a-potty stop at mile 9.

K and I shared a couple GUs along the way. Otherwise it was just water and occasional watered down gatoraid at the aid stations.

We didn't talk much during the first few miles but after we got our groove it was bla bla bla all the way down the road. I think that is why K likes to run with me. My bla bla bla keeps her mind off the running and makes the miles tick by.

We were talking about what our race goals were (dreams and such). I mentioned wanting to do an IronMan someday and a woman we were passing offered me her IMAZ spot. I laughed and told her that neither my body or my wife were ready for that committment.

In the last mile of the race there seemed to be a commotion up ahead. There were a lot of people looking over the race course. As near as I can tell somebody must have lost a ring or some other jewelry while running. Bummer for them...I hope they found what they were looking for.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

De-chipped and grabbed my finishers coffee mug. We walked across the street to the beer garden and partook in a few free recovery beers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

gravity, friction, muscle mass

What more can I say?
