Pre-race routine:

Marathon breakfast bagel, peanut butter, banana and Gatorade.
Late race start at 10am, so needed a Power-gel 30min before start.
Event warmup:

I did a good w/up run with drills, accelerations and stretching. At the start-line, I was warm, strong and ready to go.

Comments:

I felt happy and strong with my 1h56 at the 21.1mark which would have given me a 3h52 finish. But then I could feel my pace starting to slip and leg fatgue started to grow. I never had any cramping problems and my legs worked well the whole race. I was able to hold my running form and my effort in Z3 until 40k. Then I used whatever I had left to push all out until the finish.
Post race
Event comments:

I couldn't believe my eyes at finish. I ran this race completely different, on a different course and got exactly the same time that I did 2wks ago. Go figure!

Quickly got up to Z3 (HR 155-166) and then maintained. Although my Polar shows that I was in Z4 for almost 1hr, my average HR shows that I never ran in Z4 for very long. 1st 3miles at 5:22 pace avg 162 3m-10km at 5:15 avg 166 10-15km at 5:35 avg 164 15-20km at 5:32 avg 164 20-25km at 5:46 avg 162 25-30km at 6:11 avg 159 30-35km at 6:06 avg 161 35-40km at 6:34 avg 164 last 2km at 6:18 avg 166
Course: The Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort International Marathon starts by the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo N.Y. The first 6.5km (4 miles) of the race travel the beautiful majestic parkways of Buffalo before crossing the Peace Bridge into the historic old town of Fort Erie, Ontario. The route then follows the beautiful Niagara River Parkway and finishes at the magnificent Niagara Falls. We are the only marathon in the world that starts in one country and finishes in another. The course is considered flat and fast and has hosted two USA men's Olympic marathon trials in 1980 and again in 1984, along with the World Veteran's Games marathon in 1995. The Marathon course is a Boston Qualifier.
