Run
Comments: Another great race...Tail wind for the first 11 miles, nuetral wind until mile 14, and then 8 miles with a strong sustained headwind and gusts. I managed to keep my HR constant, but was on pace for a sub-3 hour race until mile 16-18, then it started slowing down. I knocked off 00:02:18 from my chicago time. It wasn't 7min/mile average, but I'll take it :) What would you do differently?: I'd like to say push harder, but I don't think I had much left at the end, so That's what I could do! Hydration was right on and used 3 gels on the course. At the end, my legs were wrecked and it felt great!! Post race
Warm down: Not much...I got stretched out by a professional, walked around the exhibitor tents, and then back to the hotel. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wind of course :) The headwind on the back stretch definitely slowed down my race. Event comments: Last year I would have rated this race a 5. The addition of the 1/2 marathon was not the best decision...they ate all the food before most marathoners finished, which was only a poor selection of water and bannanas. The blue man group performing at the start was lack luster, and after seeing them there, I would definitely not pay $100 to see their whole shoe. The mile markers did not line up, and the signs were hard to see (last year the signs were right on and huge). There were a lot less spectators this year, so the back stretch was less motivating. Entertainment was better last year also. I will definitely be looking for a new "big" race next year. And the marathon T-shirt is terrible, very bad color, I plan on giving it to my mom for christmas, because it is more of a girl color :) So overall I had a great race, I'm glad I did it, and can't wait to start working on my next goal.
