Comments:

Ran well. This was my first trail run ever. I had bought a cheap pair ofd New Balance trail shoes. They worked great and glad to have them. The start was on the road and up to a mulched cover trail. Then up and down wet hills. Did a good job not turning my ankle on a root which were numerous. Reall had to concentrate in some areas to stay up right. Started in back as usual. Passed a bunch of people on the run. The boy scout were cheering up on well at the half way mark and volunteers all over. Did well I thought.
What would you do differently?:

Trail run some. May want to start working my way to start further fwd..

Comments:

Well I wished I had adjusted seat better. Most was good going. Pushed along on the short amount os road and gravel dust rail bed. Then we turned to a soft gravel road for the rains. It was hard pushing at time and the standing water rutted up a lot. You found yourself really working the edges. Then we got to a open field of grass. We turn left and dipped down. So I worked the ruts well I thought gettin myself out of the first trouble. Just as i did the front wheel was in the left rut and the back in the right and soon I was on my left side. Yup I FELL down. After inventory mayself luckily the soft ground that caused it eased the fall to, no broken items on me. The chain was off the front and back gears. By the time I get them abck in place I was being passed by the Moms in motion group. UGHHHHHHHH. hucked it up the hill and get going. Passed a few people in the open grass and the return gravel road. The one thing I wanted to do in this race was to stay upright.. Didn't see anybody eles fall. The narrow muddy trail was next I did well and followed a younger along. Soem Jack ass had to pass us. They really needed to make that a no passing zone. Then gravel dust and home. Played tag with a nice woman my age and enjoyed the company. Left her at the road as the hybrid had smoother tires and some better road. Had lots of fun in the mud.
What would you do differently?:

Use a mtn bike and adjust the seat right.

Comments:

I started out to run the whole thing and thought you are out her eto have fun so walk a little. My riding buddy caught up and passed me till the first hill. She did place in her age group. I walked some, but ran more of it. You had to let loose on the downhills or risk skidding out of control. Sprinted well to the finish and was pleased and happy to do it.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around got some water and stood to cheer on other finishers. We stayed for awards and met a lot of great people. .

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Never trail running or mtn biking.

Event comments:

They gave out RR spikes as trophies. I want one. Maybe next year. Score this did a great job. The course was safe and well marked and patrolled. They revealed that they won an award for the best event of its kind in the state. Fantastic job. I need to work on trail running more . No shin slpints. Yahoo.
