Pre-race routine:

Bit of insomnia - up at 3am. Little bit of coffee and some oatmeal. Met my running partner and we walked/jogged to the start - about 1.5mi
Event warmup:

The walk/jog from my neighborhood counted as the warmup - we had about 25 mins of standing around at the start.
Run
  • 3h 42m 17s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran the first half in around 1:42:30 - Hit the wall somewhere on Freedom Parkway - 19 or 20th mi - Limped it on in. Pace obviously fell off big time. Still, a PR by 26minutes.

I made this an A race - I set a fairly lofty time goal -for me - and got the help of a friend who's much faster to help me train. .Biggest issue was some ligament damage around one of my ankles. Training was disrupted and pain during the race made me change my stride which throws everything else off. No excuses, I'll take the PR anyday and next time I'll try and do even better!
What would you do differently?:

I went out fast and paid for it after the 17th mile. Negative Splits? Ha!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked the 1.5 mi back home - This I could do without.

Event comments:

This was a challenging course - I think I prefer it that way rather than watered down to give it a 'fast' reputation. Tough to get a PR here if you've run flat courses before but crowd support was awesome and the course showed off intown Atlanta really well. Minor issues at the water stations but I really think that in the aggregate, the race organizers should be proud.

All in all - Highly Recommended!

Overall: 402/4340
Performance: Good
Course: From downtown Atlanta heading east and back again. Course rolls esp. after the 5th mile with the worst part beginning near the 13mi mark. Only a couple of segments were steep but the grade was very seldom flat. Area around Lullwater in Druid Hills was hardest - and still 10 miles to go!
