Run
Transition 1
Swim
Comments: Started off quite well and noticed a huge difference from last season, started getting out of breath so resumed breast stroke which really slowed me down. Mainly breastroke around the first two cans and then back to freestyle/breaststroke back to the beach. A big improvement from last year but quite disappointing not to be able to swim the whole thing freestyle which is more of a mental thing than anything else. The sun was very low in the water so a lot of glare on the way back causing problems seeing the exit. What would you do differently?: Will need to do a lot more open water swims in the next 8 weeks leading up to Tauranga HIM. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Felt a bit dizzy at the transition so took it easy, will wear a top under my wetsuit for the next race as the t-shirt was had to get on. Run
Comments: Heart rate was pretty high the whole way round. Left the water second to last but managed to run past 3 or 4 other competitors and make up some time on the run. What would you do differently?: Need to get heart rate down for the run segements. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, grabbed a red bull from the Red Bull girls and hung around for prize giving. What limited your ability to perform faster: Switching to breaststroke and needing to work on pacing myself during the swim. Event comments: Quite dissapointed with the race I had thought I was further ahead with the swimming than I appeared to be tonight but it's a significant improvement on the last race. After registration, layed out transition area and put on wetsuit. Went for a quick swim to warm-up, the water was quite chilly and managed to swim headfirst into another competitor.
