Comments:

Race started at 6:00 p.m. on a Thursday. Unseasonably warm. A bit humid, but no wind. The run went along roads, cinder trails, and jogging paths through Trinity Park. The course is very flat and shaded. The event website said that the run was 3.4 miles rather than a 5K to accomodate the course layout. I never found a course map prior to the run, if it is on the website, its well hidden. This is my normal running area, so I felt like I ought to support it.

This was my second race. Never got a "chip," so I don't know if I got officially timed. My first race, they just tore some deal off of the bottom of your number. I haven't figured this all out yet. Things thinned out, and I took my usual spot -- behind most of the runners, but ahead of the walkers. For the most part, if you stopped to walk, I passed you, otherwise I didn't. I had an 11 minute pace through the first two miles, but completed the third mile in 12 minutes; I could tell I was falling off a bit. I ran the whole way, no walking. Still, it seems like some of the run/walk people do better overall. I usually run 5K in about 37 minutes, so I feel like I got an extra 3/10th of a mile for one minute. I'm pleased with the result.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. There was a band and all sorts of food booths at the finish, but the food seemed a bit on the heavy side. Really just wanted a banana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It could have been a bit cooler.

Event comments:

The race wasn't especially well-advertised, and I think that the turn out was lower than they expected. (Just a feeling) The Thursday at 6:00 p.m. start didn't help. The drink stations were at about 1.5 miles and 2.5 miles. Given the unseasonable heat, I need a drink at about a mile. By the time the first drink station rolled around, I was thirsty.

The post race party featured a band (a bit too loud for the small area), and food booths from losts of local vendors. The food was free with the race admission, but a lot of it was a bit on the heavy side. There really wasn't anywhere to sit. Had the weather been more seasonable, it could have been cold as the sun went down.

A week after the race, and no race results have been put on the race website. This was the first race, so I'll see how it goes next year.
