![]() Run
Comments: I'd heard there were only 2 drink stations and there were. I was really hoping for 1 more but it worked out okay. When I started I thought there was no way I could run 6 miles. Even if I've done at least that distance 3 or 4 times it still seems daunting when starting out and seeing all the fast people sprinting from the start. I pretty much started out at the pace I ran the whole race so it was okay. Saw Felix near the beginning and we ran together for a little while. Then I had to take a walk break so he went on and had a great finishing time. I took a few walk breaks, less than a minute each, and it helped but I was hoping for 11 minute miles the whole way but didn' quite make it (still close, though.) I think the winning time was 34 minutes which is wicked fast! What would you do differently?: Bring my own water next time (even if it's only a 10k). I've decided I don't like waiting to get to the water stops when I'm thirsty way before them. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Talked Felix after the race waiting for Carol to finish. Got some food and our shirts. I think we saw Jeff Galloway? I thought I heard a guy near us introduce himself as JG but I have no idea what he looks like so I'm not sure. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm just naturally slow? I've gotten a little faster but I will probably always be a turtle. Event comments: This is a good race and I would definitely do it again. The 10k is the first race and I was glad to be done right before the 5k started. I like starting out from Turner Field since it's pretty cool to run on the streets of downtown. Stayed over at my friend Carol's house since it's way closer to downtown. We got up, got dressed and had bagels and coffee. The race started at 8:00 so we left her house about 6:45. Got down to Turner field, parked and went in search of the tables with our race numbers.
None really, walked around and waited in line for the potty.
