Run
Comments: First two miles were around 10:30 which I was ok with. It was hard to go any faster anyway with the huge crowd. When it cleared out a little I figured I'd just run at a comfortable pace which ended up being right around 9:15 minute miles. At the 10k mark I was at 58 minutes and something, so I made my goal 2:05. At mile 9 I was at around 1:24, so I told myself if I could make it to mile 11 in 1:42 I could possibly break 2 hours (which was my original goal before I had to deal with this bursitis for the last 4 months!). That would mean I'd have to run sub 9 minute miles if I wanted to walk through the next water stop (which I always do). A little after mile 9 I felt the all too familiar shooting pain in my knee, so I slowed down a bit. I focused real hard on landing on my whole foot and not overpronating. I made it to mile 11 at 1:42:05 which gave me less than 18 minutes to run 2.1 miles. I stopped quickly at the last water stop and then tried to move as fast as I could. With about .5 a mile left I started having trouble breathing and felt pretty sick to my stomach, but I kept going because I really wanted to break 2:00. I made it to the finish line, hit the stop button on my watch and saw that it said 2:00:01. I smacked myself in the head and went inside to sulk! My unofficial time was 2:00:03! What would you do differently?: I keep thinking that if hadn't forgotten my gel, I would've broken 2 hours. Since I forgot it, I ended up eating some clif shot blocks around mile 6 and that slowed me down a little. Oh well, I should be proud of myself. My goal going in was to beat 2:12 and I did that I just really wanted to break 2 hours. I'm already looking for another half before IMAZ, so I can try again. Post race
Warm down: Got my medal, found my husband, grabbed my bag, got some ice for my knee and hamstring and sat down to ice for a bit. Changed clothes and got my finishers shirt. Found my mom and daughter and headed to IHOP. What limited your ability to perform faster: I wasn't sure how my knee and hamstring would react. I've done 4 or 5 2:00-2:30 runs, but always at an 11-12 minute mile pace because I didn't want my bursitis to flare up again. Event comments: I'll always do the half or full here in Houston. It's a great race! Last updated: 2006-11-01 12:00 AM

Got out of bed at 4:40. Got ready, had some chocolate milk, and a PBJ sandwich. Left the house at 5:00 to head downtown.
Stayed in the GRB until 6:50. Tried to jog to the corral to warm up, but ended up walking most of the way because of the crowd. I was kind of worried about my hamstring, but figured I'd just stop and stretch later if I needed to. My only goal for this race was to finish without knee/hamstring pain and TRY to beat my previous time of 2:12.
