Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6am...woke Jess up, got dressed, took supplements, and ran out the door.
Event warmup:

None. Found Adam, got packets, went down to start area, found Betsy (or rather she found us), and looked for Rich, but we didn't find him.

Comments:

This was a great race. I had so much fun just relaxing and running it as a training run instead of going all out and racing it. I started in the back and just took it easy. The 5Kers had started 5 minutes before us, so we caught up with them around mile 2 or so. I saw Adam on the course and said hey as I ran by. Suddenly from behind I hear "sorry, just had to do it!" and then...WHACK!! Right on the butt!! Fun times. On I went.

By mile 4, my duct tape was cutting into my toe, so I took 20 seconds to tear off the part where it was hurting. But a mile later, the edge of where I tore it was cutting into my foot again. So I waited about another mile before it got so unbearable that I had to stop again and just get rid of the whole thing. Felt better, but the damage was done.

I relaxed for the rest of the run, took a gel at the halfway point, took water and gatorade together at every other aid station but took gatorade every time. Felt good, never dehydrated, never over-hydrated, and I never got out of Z2. It was just a good workout.

Right around mile 10 there were these rolling hills we had to run up and down...they were cool...but it was windy there since there were no trees around at that point.

At the 12.75-mile aid station we turned into the loosest, softest, deepest sand I've ever run in. Wow. But after that little quarter mile stretch of that, it was just a few steps to the finish.

Saw Adam at the finish and we waited for Betsy and Jess to come in. Once all our peeps finished we headed to the cars.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...I am really happy I regulated my pace and concentrated on the training aspect of this race. My original goal was to keep my time at about 2:10...well 1:55 with not really trying is ok with me!!
Post race
Warm down:

Just had a few cups of water, but didn't load up like I normally do after a 110% effort.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Doesn't apply.

Event comments:

Alot of fun and an excellent course. I have totally fallen in love with trail running this year. I've had a great time at all three (5K in march, 50K in Sept and this one) and I'll definitely keep running them. Sure they're a little slower than road races but they're so much less harsh on the body!

This run was on a beautiful course and I'll definitely do it again next year.
