Swim
Comments: The swim felt great, but my time was disappointing--I had hoped to finish it in less than 30 minutes. I spent a lot less time working on speed this for this race, and more time working on endurance--I think I could have swum twice the distance at the same pace, but not gone any faster comfortably. Kept up a good breathing rhythm, bilateral breathing every 3 strokes for pretty much the whole swim. What would you do differently?: Mix in more speed specific sessions in training, especially mid season. Keep volume up, but break it up into higher intensity chunks with more reovery time. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was about 90 seconds faster than at Wildflower. Remembered to take in another gel and chase it with fresh water! What would you do differently?: Try to get feet tough enough to bike without socks. Wear watch for the swim. Bike
Comments: This was my first race on my own road bike. Felt pretty good--great learning experience! I think I can probably corner a lot better now. Downed two 24 ounce bottles of Acclerade and two Accel Gels (Laps 2 and 4) while riding to see if it would help me on the run. Got a big boost from my very own cheering section at the transition/bike in area! What would you do differently?: Continue to work on improving bike handling skills so cornering is better. Sprint harder on straights/flats. Transition 2
Comments: Remembered to grab another gel. Socks were still wet from wet feet after swim, reinforcing the sockless biking idea. What would you do differently?: Bike w/o socks, put powder in shoes. Run
Comments: Ran in with Brittany after catching her. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Need to work on run cadence. Post race
Warm down: A little calf stretching, a lot of water, and a big mound of pasta. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of speed training in the pool and lack of cadence training on the run. Need to do some more strength training in the off season so I can mix in sprints without going too anaerobic. Event comments: Rather a boring course, but it gets a higher rating because it is extremely spectator friendly. A good one for a beginner trying out the sport. Last updated: 2006-11-05 12:00 AM

Woke up at 415am. Pulled on clothes, put in contacts, ate 4oz greek yogurt with honey and a pear-cranberry bar. Jockeyed bike out of hotel, and eventually, car out of valet garage. Drove to island with Christine, grabbing coffee on the way, and parked. Headed to transition about 615. got everything all set up and hung out for a couple hours waiting for TNT wave at 930. At about 845, wiggled into my wetsuit halfway. Downed an Accel Gel at 9. Hung around with my teammates and other TNT gals in line--it was a lot of fun; everyone was pumped! Got into the water as soon as I could and filled up my wetsuit with water--not bad, about 60 degrees.
