Swim
Comments: I went out too hard, trying to keep up with the "pack", should have just plodded away at my own pace. Didn't do well in the swim, was out of puff by 250m, did 25 breast stroke, then free style the rest, at my own pace. My head was all over the place, thought I felt sick, not concentrating well at all. Got lots of nice big red rashes from the stingers. There were only a handfull of people behind me after the swim. What would you do differently?: Stick to my own pace, I new I was going too fast but was worried about loosing the "pack". I am going to do more of the open water swiming events with the tri club, just to get used to it. Forgot to take my wedding ring off, soo was paranoid about it falling off. Next time I will leave it at home. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition, was in after a few and out before them, so that was good. What would you do differently?: Would like to be able to leave shoes on bike, rather than puting them on and having to run in them, but it doesnt seem to slow me down much. Try to remember to hit hit the "lap" button on the HR monitor so I can get more accurate times. Don't use HR strap in the swim, just leave it in transition and put it on in T1, I don't think it liked the water? Bike
Comments: Did well on the bike, cought plenty of the people who took off from me in the swim. Was trying not to push too hard, as I just wanted this event to be a test. I think I got the ride just about right, only had 2 people overtake me and they were not from my "wave" (one had his name on his suit...la de da...) Heart rate monitor didn't work at all, the whole race. I had to pace by PRE. What would you do differently?: I used my old (well 10 months old anyway) road bike, next time I will try my new Tri Bike. I think I could have pushed much harder on the bike leg, but was worried/trying, to keep enogh energy for the run. Transition 2
Comments: Forgot to tighten my laces, they were ok but would have liked them a bit tighter. What would you do differently?: Put socks on, that slowed me down a bit, but haven't run in these shoes with no socks before, so next time I will try no socks. Run
Comments: Pace was steady the whole way, wasn't "stuffed" at the end, so could have put in alot more. Had a guy running on my shoulder the whole way, then he sprinted off with about 200m to go...nice of him. Run was good realy, no leg problems, just felt like a nice lttle run realy. Although the HR monitor wasn't working I am prety sure I stayed most of the time in zone 3, I ran at PRE3-4 anyway. I tried to have a drink from a cup while running, spent the next minute coughing and spluttering and managed to get about 2 drops down I think, next lap I just threw it over my head. What would you do differently?: Put in more effort so I feal like I have tried when I get to the end. Legs felt great on the run, no tierness in them at all, so next time I know I can push a bit harder on the bike. Have to do more "brick?" workouts so I know my limits. Post race
Warm down: Just a few streches, some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was just a test event, I wanted to see how much work I had to do on the different events, and see were I was at. Also only my second Tri ever so was good just to get the lay of the land. I have lots of work to do on my swimming, the rest was prety good, I rode and ran at a pace that I know I can maintain all day. Event comments: Would have rated it higher but there was no timing chips, just a stopwatch at the start and the end. Last updated: 2006-11-08 12:00 AM
