Pre-race routine:

Met Billy, Jorge & Ivanka at the chip tent around 6:45AM. We got our timing chips and just hung out and tried to stay warm. Around 7:15AM, we all headed back to our cars to leave all the nice warm clothes and dress down. I caught up with Alfred and family on my way to the start. It was chilly!
Event warmup:

Ran to the car to check on how the ribs would treat me today. My assessment was okay to good, but let's give this run a shot.

Comments:

We all got to the starting line with a couple of minutes to spare. Bill & Ivanka planned to run the same pace. Jorge was running 6 miles for the first time in his life. Awesome! Alfred planned on an 8 minute pace. I did not know what was I was capable of today. We lined up in the back and before you knew it the gun went off.

It took a little while to get into a comfortable pace. The starting area is narrow and made it difficult to get some space to run. My side was bothering me at times, but it was managable. After the 2 mile mark, I noticed I was running at a 7:15/mile pace. This was actually surprising. At this point I decided to pick it up and just go until my side hurt too much to handle. I kept a nice workable pace and tried not to take any deep breaths. When I did breathe deep, I was seeing stars.

Finished the second loop and headed towards the finish line inside the stadium. One loop around the track and through the chute. Happy, Excited & Done!
What would you do differently?:

Maybe line up closer to the start.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for the rest of the gang to come through the finish line. I saw Billy, Ivanka & Jorge cross the finishline. All three of them PR'ed. Way To Go! We caught up with Alfred and BSed for a while.

Shortly after, it was time to eat. We headed as a group to have breakfast. What an absolutely gorgeous morning! I got to run. I got to hang out with my great friends. I got to eat and share stories. These are just some of the reasons why we do what we do.

Thanks to my buds for sharing this morning with me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was being a bit cautious because of the side pain.

Event comments:

This race continues to grow year after year. The weather has been fantastic for the two times I have done it. The course is nice. The attendance is big (1500+) runners in both the 5K & 10K.
This is a good race to do on a special day, Thanksgiviing.
