Pre-race routine:

Get up, freeze my tail off, go to the bus, eat a bagel w/ Peanut Butter and Honey (THANK YOU SHANNON!!!) and a bottle of SE. Get there, wait in line for 30 minutes fo rthe potty, freak out that my HRM had not charged. This is love - my little sis who was running the 1/2 had jsut got a garmin and let me use hers!!!! I LOVE HER!! She ran with her old timex (no GPS) for me :) By that time, they were singing the anthem, so I did a few pick ups and got in my corral just as the gun went off. This actually worked fine!!
Event warmup:

A few pick ups and a dash for my corral

Comments:

Should I start with the good, the bad, or the ugly?! The good - I made my goal, I QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON (OF course I won't run it until 08)!!!!!!!!!! with 35 seconds to spare - whew!!!!
The bad, It was cold - VERY cold. At mile 6 there was a bank with a thermometer - still 33 degrees!!!! My feet were cold and toed numb until mile 5 or 6. My gloves froze after the 2nd water station after spilling water on them they were completely useless. In face, I think they were keeping the fingers on my right hand numb. I finally ditched those. The ugly - I got pushed at the first water station and fell on my face, and kinda got stepped on. Road rash on both quads and my knee was bleeding - that was mile 1... more ugly - my little melt down including a tear or two at mile 25 when I literally had to screama few times to make myself keep running. my legs just wanted to stop and I thought at that point I was going to miss qualifying by just a few seconds. My sister saved the day (for the second time) by finding me at just the right time before I gave up to walk and pushed me to sprint to the finish. I said no twice, but she kept yelling at me and I dug just a little deeper and found enough to get my legs moving at 7' mile pace to the finish. The alternative was walking the last quarter mile. I love my sister!!
The course was great and I had no worries about water with the cold. I took in 900 calories on the course!!! and I took 4 endurolyte caps. My legs started feeling heavy at mile 15 - at that point I was in good shape for the pace, but I was not expecting my legs to hurt in earnest until mile 20. In fact I wasn't sure if they hurt or were just cold. There was just enough of a head breeze to put a nip on the sweat and my legs were cold. In this temp in the future, I will wear tights. I think my top was perfect though. I wore my tri top as an undershirt with a full zip LS shirt on top. The last 1.5 miles turned away from the breeze completely and the sun was finally strong enough to make a difference and I did unzip all the way and expose my shoulders to cool off. This was the start of the melt down I was mentioning...
Anyway, I crossed the finish line and was elated (OK delerious maybe. ) went directly to the med tent to have my quads taped with ice (and my knee neosporined) then I walked for 30 minutes - not necessarily intentionally, but my same loving sister had lost her car... I forgave her inadvance!! She by the way ran a 1:38 so I need to run another 1/2 mary to get my title back.... hmmmm... What's the fastest 1/2 you can think of... Ah nothing like sibling rivalry!!! Seriously though I'm proud of my baby sis!
Ice bath, hot tub, football, (The Pats beat San DIEGO!!!!!!!!) ice bath race report. BED now :)
One of the top 5 days of my life :)
What would you do differently?:

train a little longer. Other than that - I think this was pretty damned good.
Post race
Warm down:

Got patched with ice, and walked to find the car - for 30 minutes!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

cold, A few GI issues on the way, but not too bad, my little melt down around 25 mm.
