Age Group Rank = 50/50
Pre-race routine:

Packed every thing the night before and took 4 advil before bed to control any inflamation from the rib injury ,got up at 4 loaded everything into the Jeep, grabbed a cliff bar and bottle of water then took four more advil and headed out. Got there around 5 unloaded and headed over to transistion to set up
Event warmup:

Saw Matty B finished getting ready and we headed down to the beach and to the starting area. Got into the water to get a little use to it, didn't do any swimming since i didn't want to take any chances of aggravating my rib injury
Swim
  • 24m 1s
  • 805 meters
  • 02m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Knew i would have trouble swimming and wanted to get in at 24 minutes, soeven though the time was slow can't complain to much. Did the same course in 28:17 last year so at least some improvement. Started out well had good form and breathing was good then at about 300 to 400m started having trouble breathing deeply and then the form went, so would swim, catch my breath and start out again. Was a great relief to get around that last bouy.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to keep practicing my swimming and hopefully will someday be able to swimlong distances no problem
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

Very pleasedwith the transition, first time for me using the clip pedals in a race
Bike
  • 51m 6s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Started out really slow and sluggish, felt like I was going to puke the first 4 miles, guess i drank to much salt water during the swim. Felt better after the first turn around and was able to kick it ina little more but never really got into a great groove. Overall i would say thebike was just ok, know I should be able to average about 2 miles an hour faster so really need towork on the bike before morton plant.
What would you do differently?:

More training on the bike at longer distances and don't drink so much salt water during the swim.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Was just happy I didn't wipe out, considered just slipping my feet out of the shoes but was to close to the end by then. so just unclipped, legs felt pretty good so was able to run in no problem, unfortuanatly had to rack my bike 4 positions away from my own stuff, but was able to change shoes and get out pretty quick
Run
  • 27m 42s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Not to bad thought i was keeping up a quicker pace than i was, noticed i was at around a 9 minute mile pace at the turn around to the beach, was hoping to average 8:30 mile or less. Didn't have to much trouble on the sand, only soft spots were comingontothe beach and then the final few hundred yards. Also had Matt cheer me on the lasst few hundred yards so was able to kick it in a little more
What would you do differently?:

not much other than run faster
Post race
Warm down:

went with Matt straight to the beer wagon and grabbed a slice of pizza then went back out to see his neighbor come in but she was to quick and we misssed her. Hung around and a couple more beers, chatted and stayed till the awards and had one last drink over at the daquiri deck before heading home to rest

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training the last 2 weeks due to injury

Event comments:

Was my first tri last year and had just as much fun again this year, will definetly be a yearly event. Wish I could have done better but at least beat my time last year which was a shorter course than this year.
