Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 6:15 to get ready and make sure I ate something. Had 2 slices of cranberry orange bread and a small rice kripy treat. Made sure to drink water. Left to go pick up Laurie (tri_it_cajun_style).
Event warmup:

Tired to stand in the sun. It was pretty chilly in the shade. We had a little walk over from the parking garage to the convention center. When we first got downtown, we didn't see anybody!! This race draws about 30,000 so we knew we should see people. Once we turned a corner, we saw everyone. Meet up with my running class, went and got our timing chips, grabbed some hot chocolate and used the pottys. Then headed to the start line and tried to make our way close to the front, but not to close

Comments:

Laurie and I managed to weave our way through the people on the course just fine. I had heard that it was pretty tough to find your spot, but I didn't have trouble. Laurie and I kept up a pretty good pace. We walked the water stops and then picked right back up running. I debated about useing the potties again at mile 2 but there was a long line, decided it wasn't worth it and thought I would stop at the next one. Laurie and I kept on along and once we got to the Houston Street Bridge, we could see everyone on the other side on their return leg. There were just people for miles. It was alot of fun to have that many people out on the course. Laurie got some blisters about mile 6 and running made them hurt worse so this is where we split off. I ran the last two miles by myself and I was surprised at how good I still felt. Felt like I could keep going. Got closer to the finish and I turn the corner and there is an uphill. Not fun to end on that. Trudged on up it and finally saw the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

I don't think I would do anything differently. Had a great time and I wasn't even too sore afterwards.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to find some water and a banana. They handed out water at the finish but it was that flavored stuff and it was just too sweet after that run. Finally found some water and they mentioned to grab it quick since they were almost out. I knew Laurie was behind me so I grabbed two to make sure we were both covered. Meet up with Laurie and the Class after wards and all shared stories.

Event comments:

This was a fun race. I normally don't like races that have that many people but when it is 8 miles, it sure is nice to see others out there with you. I don't think I would have felt so good at the finish if Laurie hadn't kept me in line. I am a horrible pacer and running with her was great. Thanks again Laurie!!
