Swim
Comments: Progress! Started 2nd or 3rd row, inside. Took me the first 100 yards to get past those guys. I had to stop several times because there was no way through. Got into a groove for the last 1/2 of the swim. Passed a lot of guys from my wave and the previous wave, especially in the last leg to the beach. According to my watch, my split for the swim itself (less the stairs and the run up the hill to T1) was 16:11. That is 1:50/100yds which is about right for me. What would you do differently?: Just continue to work on controlling HR and breathing in the 1st half. Overall I'm pretty happy, as this was a significant improvement on my last effort in which I pulled the classic OWS breathing out of control thing. Transition 1
Comments: T1 included in bike time. I had 1:46 on my watch. What would you do differently?: Work on getting wetsuit over heels. That's my only real issue. Bike
Comments: T1 and T2 included in official bike split. I got passed by 5 guys in the 35-49 age range. I passed 12-15 guys. Two of the really fast older guys, that started in the wave behind, wizzed by, as well. According to my watch, my split for the bike itself was 18:21. That is 19.62 mph which is probably slightly slow for me given the course. What would you do differently?: Better cadence management. I felt like I was pushing really hard, but I did not get the expected result. Transition 2
Comments: One shoe popped off pedal entering T2, had to go back for it. I had T1 = 1:02 on my watch. 1st race running without socks. Made for much faster T2. What would you do differently?: Pay attention to where I leave pedal position on rolling dismount to avoid popping shoe off. Run
Comments: Never got into any kind of groove. Felt off the entire way. I felt maxed but was obviously dead slow. What would you do differently?: Still trying to figure it out. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with Jackie & Ryan (wife & son) for 10 minutes, introduced them to many tri friends, put on warmer clothes and got something to drink and a bagel. Watched Ryan on the playground while I stretched. After Jackie & Ryan left I hung out with friends for awards, packed up and walked with a friend 1/2 mile to car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience, slow run Event comments: My friend is the Race Director so of course it is a great race! I knew a lot of the voluntees, as well. A very pleasant environment to race in. Last updated: 2006-12-03 12:00 AM

Manned the registration area on Saturday. Left about 6:00 p.m.
Early to bed (for me) 10:00 p.m. Woke up at 2:30 am and dozed off and on until 5:00 am. Ate dry cereal, banana and a couple of fig bars with OJ.
Ran 1 mile with Aaron. Put on wetsuit while still slightly warm. Walked down to swim start and swam about 150 yds. and got ready. I was in 2nd wave.
