Pre-race routine:

Hard race to know how to eat for this one. Had a bagel with peanut butter about 730am. Mostly walked around and hung out with the BT crowd
Event warmup:

Wasn't any real accomodation for warm-up swim. Got in half a lap before my number got called and I had to line up
Swim
  • 08m 49s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Probably my fastest 500m swim ever. Probably went out a little too hard. Passed the guy in front of me and never got caught by anyone from behind.
What would you do differently?:

Need stronger swim prep. I've been ignoring my 500's in favor of shorter swims and drills. Need more time at the race distance
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

Shirt got stuck about halfway down my body. Wasted time fussing with it. Enjoyed the BT crowd yelling at me as I came out of the pool and headed into T1
What would you do differently?:

Ignore the shirt and go.
Bike
  • 39m 32s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Just didn't have it on the bike. I think I just came in under my goal time but I really didn't ever feel like I got settled good on the bike. McCoy Rd is usually my fastest stretch but I was having to cruise at about 17mph to get my HR and breathing under control.

Really disappointed in my ride. This is supposed to be my strongest leg of the race. 10/18 and 200/332 does not make me happy!
What would you do differently?:

Not sure...maybe it wasn't my day...maybe I swam too hard.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Hello--Helmet comes off at T2???? Somehow I missed that step...that's a huge rookie mistake but I knew better
What would you do differently?:

TAKE OFF MY #$**#*#@*@#(*#@( Helmet next time
Run
  • 32m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Got a stitch in my right side as soon as I started the run. Oh yeah, I also had the little distraction of getting about 200 yds into my run and realizing that I was trying for a little extra aero benefits. Somehow, I ran past 300 people and none of them bothered to say "Hey retard, take off your helmet!!!"

Walked about as much as I ran. I would have liked to put on a better showing than that. My goal was 32:00. I would have smoked that if I had been able to run the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

TAKE OFF THE HELMET THIS TIME!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, got some snacks, and waited on the rest of the BT Crew. Had an awesome time cheering on our Crew, especially all of the first timers.

Event comments:

Pretty good race. Really enjoyed myself. Run course sucked, but that's life.
