Run
Comments: This was my first run since competing as a sprinter in college- and even then I wasn't much of a runner. The course was a lot flatter than I expected but it worked in my favor. At the start of the race I had a great deal of difficulty maneuvering through the crowd and finding my pace (note to self- don't start so far back). The guy with the bullhorn at the first mile mark barked out 7min 44seconds when I passed him. I'm still not sure if this was a good time or not. The next two miles were progressively more challenging because the cold began to get to me. One thing that kept me going was seeing people on the sidewalk cheer the runners on. I was so happy to see the finish line that I sprinted extra hard just to be done. What would you do differently?: Would begin training farther in advance. Post race
Warm down: Took a brief jog while waiting for a friend to complete the race. Then walked around a bit as she introduced me to some other competators. What limited your ability to perform faster: Novice runner for this distance. I need to learn how to train for events, hopefullly this site will help. Event comments: Great event for a great cause. I loved hearing thousands of jingle bell jingling at once. Last updated: 2006-12-06 12:00 AM

Day before the race: I wanted to do some training in weather similar to the race so I decided to take a run down lake road. The first 1/2 mile went by relatively smoothly; temp was mid 30s. Then the heavens decided to open up and bless me with freezing rain and wind gusts. I figured if i could survive that the race would be do-able.
Day of the race:
I woke up at 6:00AM and ate a bowl of Kashi Oat Flakes and Blueberry Clusters. Around 7:00AM ate a banana on the drive to Rochester. Registered for the race at 8:00AM.
After registering I sat in the car and cranked the heat up to 90 degrees for about 20 minutes. Then rentered the high school and searched endlessly for a unoccupied bathroom. Finally began stretching about 15 minutes before the race.
