Swim
Comments: 825 yards in the Hillendbrand pool. The black line at the bottom of the pool was a lot different from the Rec Center pool where I swim a majority of the time. I adjusted easily and felt strong during this short distance. I was out of the water a good 50 seconds sooner than expected. What would you do differently?: Not much...I always need to train more, but that goes for all three disciplines. Transition 1
Comments: Both transitions are wrapped into the overall bike time. The swim to bike transition was fast though...right around a minute. I had a great spot in the transition area and took full advantage of it. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I felt strong on the bike. My team has been warning me about training too heavily the week of the race (we went on a 50 mile ride the day before the race). But I didn't feel any ill effects on the bike. Only got passed by 3 people and two of them were in my age group, which can be a mental challenge. Hyderated well, ate some salt tablets and drank whenever I felt weak...I really want my bike leg to be strong this season. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 2
Comments: Again the transition is rolled into the bike leg. My second transition did not go as smoothly as my first. I couldn't get my running shoes on smoothly and I dropped my goo near the water station on the way out of the transition, of course I had to leave it behind or loose vital time on the run. What would you do differently?: Put my goo in the legging of my race shorts instead of my hat...I dropped the goo as I carried my hat and number of the transition. Run
Comments: I had set a goal of 1:05 for my overal race finish, so I knew after a half mile I couldn't reach that goal, so I took a step back mentally. I really missed that goo during my first mile. During a sprint distance like this I need that extra oomph to get me over the intial pain and then I hammer. I started to feel the ill effects of overtraining this week. I was disappointed in my run and it fucked my mental edge the final mile of the race. What would you do differently?: Stop glancing at my watch to figure out my run splits, I just need to race my race and push myself to the limit...that didn't happen on the run this race. Post race
Warm down: Picked up my comp race t-shirt, hung out with some friends, ate bagels and took some photos with The Team. What limited your ability to perform faster: Looking at my watch, not having the goo on the run and worrying too much about my goal of 1:05. I still set a PR by eight seconds but that's not going to help me when I know I could have run faster. Event comments: This is a pool swim so there isn't the ambience of a true triathlon with the open water swim, but what do you expect for Tucson...open water is a rare occurance down here in the desert. I still set a PR but I plan on reaching that 1:05 goal with the two other races in this series. Last updated: 2006-12-11 12:00 AM

Race time started at 6:45am. However, it's a pool swim, so my wave didn't start until approx. 8:25am. So I racked my gear early and came home to sleep a little, drink some coffee, duke and get the rest of the family together.
Stretched.
