Swim
Comments: Swim went pretty good. I was stressing(for some unknown reason) on whether I wanted to wear my wetsuit. I wanted a shorter T1, so I was tempted to go without. Ended up wearing it and I was glad. Started in the front of my wave...felt good in the water, it wasn’t too crowded most of the time. The turns got kinda cramped, but it wasn’t too bad. The last leg, heading towards the beach was kinda annoying b/c there were people going all over the place. Managed to push through and pass them. I was kinda tired running up the hill to the T-area and couldn’t decide if I should pull over to pull off my wetsuit, but never found a good place to stop, Not a big deal. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace more from now on and always start in the front of the wave. Transition 1
Comments: Saw Kraig in T1 and got excited to A) see him and B) made me think I had a good swim since he was the wave in front of me. Had a little trouble getting off the wetsuit, but just stripped it off inside out and it was fine. What would you do differently?: Need more practice getting out of wetsuits and transitions in general. I want to consistently have 1:00 or less transitions. I’m known to be a little pokey and the type to always go back into the house for things I forget…so it’s kinda my nature to be slower than not… Bike
Comments: The bike was hard. I knew there were supposed to be some rolling hills, but it was more like a roller coaster than I expected. None of the hills were huge, but they just kept coming. They said there was a large hill at mile 3, but I don’t think that was any bigger than the rest…they just all blended together. I felt pretty strong the entire course, but I could have been more aggressive when trying to pass people. I played leap frog with a girl most of the bike b/c we couldn’t decide who wanted to just get rd of the other person. I really didn’t drink much water at all, but I was just trying to stay in control on the hills. I can feel improvement from last year when climbing. I think I’m more comfortable on courses that aren’t flat. I guess Kennesaw Mountain is paying off! What would you do differently?: Try to drink more, work on being more aggressive. Transition 2
Comments: Wanted to stay under 1:00...so I'm pretty happy with this transition. I wasn’t lightning fast, so I think there is always room for improvement. What would you do differently?: Not much, just keep working on being speedy in the t-area Run
Comments: I’m not going to complain too much about this run. I was looking at times from last year and it’s within about :30 of all my 5k’s at the end of a sprint. I felt ok running off the bike, but again, this course was hilly and I got pretty tired by the end of the first mile. My legs got heavy and my lungs were very tired. I liked the course for the run, it was an out and back loop, so I was constantly watching people coming towards me. I even saw Kirk and Kraig and that was a nice little boost. I’m just happy I actually ran the whole way, it seems silly, but that’s good for me. What would you do differently?: Keep working on improving my run endurance. I really enjoy running, so if I can keep seeing small improvements, I think I’ll stay motivated and hopefully improve. So run, run and run some more! Post race
Warm down: Grab water, talk with Kirk and Kraig about all of the FAST people at the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Maybe having to get up at 3am to drive to the race??? Event comments: I think this was a good race, but WAY faster than any of us expected. It was supposed to be my first tri last year, but I was scared that the swim was too long. I think that’s funny now!! I would do this race again, but really only if it fit in my schedule nicely…it’s not an automatic repeat. The t-shirts were super lame in my opinion and sometimes that’s half the fun- getting a new t-shirt. Plus, they were out of XL’s when Kraig tried to get his shirt….poor planning. Otherwise, I don’t have many complaints. Good turkey chili at the finish, that was different! Last updated: 2006-12-15 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:15am(UGH!!!), got ready to leave the house for the 2hr drive to Clemson. It’s funny, it was actually easier to wake up than on a normal workday. Ate a waffle with peanut butter and 1 cup coffee in the car. Got to the race with about 90 min to spare…just as we planned. Set up transition, ate ½ a PowerBar, talked to Kirk, Heather and Stephanie and headed to the beach for the start.
Walking back and forth to the car 3 times after forgetting stuff....nothing else
