The usual. Dragging my @ss out of bed at an ungodly hour. Got up at 6AM, out the door by 6:10AM to make my pilgrimage to the Bronx. The subway was packed! Luckily I got a seat and snoozed all the way up. I was still debating when I got to the race site whether to run or race it, but then OceanAnnie called so I decided to run it with her. I was gonna try to get 1:54 today..but opted to help her meet her 2:10:00 goal. My calf was kind of achy and I wasn't in a racing kind of mood. Man I can't wait for spring to come. Spring, we miss you!
Event warmup:

My event warmup included running around getting my race number and shirt, dropping off my bags, and trying to wait on line for the ridiculously long lines at the portapotties. Decided to bag that and go to the start with OceanAnnie.

Comments:

We started at the mid 9's pace group. Thankfully NYRR was doing the regular pace starts, meaning no corral starts. :) We settled into a pace pretty quick. I probably started her out faster than I should of but I like to have cushion room at the end.

Since I again opted to not use the porta potty at the start..I had to go on line for them at mile 3. I told OceanAnnie to keep going and I would catch up to her. Unforunately, I hit the wrong button on my F305 so its behind by like 5 minutes on the total time. But the pace times are right. I was booking it trying to catch up to her. I was doing 7:30 at some points to make up the time. At the start of mile 10 had to use the portapotty again! Luckily no line so not as much time to make up to catch up to OceanAnnie.

I must have annoyed a lot of people around me because people kept on looking at me funny. There were tons of rolling hills, I happen to love hills. I kept telling OceanAnnie there were no hills. People looked at me like I was nut. Oh wells, we kicked their butts on the hills! I made OceanAnnie run up, and do recovery down. There's no such thing as stopping at the top. :) We did this most of the race. We didn't stop the whole race either which was great! I kept on reminding OceanAnnie of her goal time and how well she was doing and how she'd kick my @ss in any IM. (She's training for IM Lake Placid.)

So its mile 12, we see the 13 and the finish...and OceanAnnie has this sick look on her face. I thought she was blow chunks right there. I made her kick at the 12.75 mile mark..and we were running it in.. One tenth left..she's looking pretty bad...I kept on reminding her we're almost done and she can do what she needs to do after we cross that line. Needless to say we crossed the line at 2:05:44 where she did her 'good race puking'? Some people collapse when they gave it all they got, others puke. Hell if I care, we made her goal time and smashed it into little peices. She wanted to give me a hug afterwards, but I decided to wait on that. ;)
What would you do differently?:

Listen to my body, get to the race earlier and pee before the race! Also, start trying out different gels, Powergels don't seem to agree with me anymore.
Post race
Warm down:

Hot chocolate and waiting in Larry's car for Larry the Lighthouse and Wendy the Windmill to come in. Finally they came in, and ran them into the finish. :) I said my goodbyes and made my way back home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nada.

Event comments:

You gotta love 'Da Bronx'. Some peeps in the apartment buildings were blasting raeggae ton from their windows. ;) Great race and lots of volunteers. Gotta love the volunteers. ;)

Course: The 13-Mile course will take you south on Goulden Avenue. Turn right on 195th Street, and then right on Sedgwick Avenue to Mosholu Parkway to a turnaround at Marion & Hull Avenues. Retrace the route to 195th Street. Turn left onto Goulden Avenue, and then right onto Bedford Park Boulevard, left onto Paul Avenue and then right onto Mosholu Parkway. Make a quick right onto the Grand Concourse to a turnaround at 179th Street, and return to Mosholu Parkway. Turn right and continue to the same turnaround at Marion & Hull Avenues. Coming back on Mosholu Parkway, turn onto Goulden Avenue to the Finish Line.
