Run
Comments: Hell yeah, that's a new PR! By over five minutes!!! So, I started out just running what felt good. Soon after the start of the race I saw sparco & his neighbor, and I knew they were both aiming for faster races than I was expecting. But their pace felt good so I stayed with them. After awhile we branched out a bit (turns out sparco was right behind me the whole time) and I just tried to stay with this guy in a bright orange jacket b/c he had a good pace. At mile five I was happy with my splits and was still feeling really good, so I just kept the pace. Oh this is off topic, but I LOVE winter races b/c all the men wear running tights and you can check out their asses. I saw some really excellent fannies and legs at this race. A muscular runner in motion is a beautiful thing. Anyway, by this point I thought "I could PR!" So I focused on keeping my cadence up. I was surprised by how good I was feeling. I think it might have something to do with the temp... I was dressed perfectly for the weather, I wasn't too cold and didn't overheat while I got running. Overheating can really kill a race. I had a gel at around mile 9. There were ice chips in the cups b/c the water had been sitting out. Brrr! Each mile that passed I kept checking my progress against the clock. At 8 miles I thought "I can still go 9:30 miles and PR," at 10 miles I thought "I could do 10:00 miles and still PR!" Having that safety net was really nice, but I didn't even need it. I just felt really GOOD. At mile 12 my feet started to feel kind of heavy, but I didn't have any problem keeping the cadence up. I credit a lot of this to the super sweet mix I made on my ipod, seems like music is a great way to keep my feet moving fast. There was a VERY large hill the last .25 mile of the race, and that HURT. But I was solidly in the PR range so I didn't stress about it. Came into the finishing shute and by my clock I was at 1:49:30. Hooray!! What would you do differently?: Nada. This was a great race for me. Post race
Warm down: My friends Sparks and Kelly were waiting at the finish to congratulate me. (Well, Kelly was inside b/c she was too cold, haha) Bless their little hearts! I got as much free food as I could, ate almost none of it, then the three of us went to the St. Clair Boiler for hot chocolate and reubens, my favorite post-race meal. Event comments: Minnesota and I must be good for eachother, b/c I was NOT expecting to feel or run this well. Maybe it's a residual effect from all those spinning classes? I don't know, but I felt great and was very happy with the results. hip hip hooray! Last updated: 2006-12-19 12:00 AM

Woke up early, made some breakfast, had some coffee, yada yada.
I got to the race kind of early so I bought a tshirt and ran back to my car to stash it. After grabbing my number, I went upstairs to meet the fellow BTers running the race. How exciting! I met sparco and mndiver! And Mike... user name is? Anyway, we talked for as long as we could before having to go outside for the start. I split off from the group to pee. Waiting in line was torture! It was sooo windy, and the lines weren't moving one bit. But boy did that pee feel good once I finally got in a portapotty. Haha.
Just jumped around a bit and decided whether I was really going to go for it or not. I decided I'd just see how I feel... I wasn't expecting a crazy good race or anything, just to enjoy a nice distance.
