Swim
Comments: Swim finished at a dock, where volunteers helped pull swimmers out of the water. You were completely at their mercy, and the two men that pulled me out of the water got me up to my shins when my legs bounced off the side of the dock. Adreneline deadened the pain for the time, but it would come back to haunt me on the run later... What would you do differently?: Swim training was poor prior to this race. I did not know how to pace myself, and was afraid to attack the swim for fear of not being able to finish. Swam breaststroke for the vast majority of the course, and was quite surprised that my time was as good as it was. Transition 1
Comments: Everything was working fine until one guy beside me asked me to help him get his jersey over his wet body - it was terribly rolled and took 30 seconds to fix. Not a major amount of time in the scheme of things, just annoying. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing. Bike
Comments: Still having problems getting legs accustomed to the mechanics prior to the 7 mile mark. I was being left behind like I was sitting still while my legs burned, but at the 6 mile mark, the passing slowed, and @ 7, the passing began to reverse itself. Only 5 or so passed me from that point on, and I began to really pick off those ahead of me 2-3 at a time. What would you do differently?: Bike Chain had a bent link which slipped every 2.5 spins. I could never attack the hills because of the fear that the chain or gears would give out. Lost 5 minutes or so because of the chain. Transition 2
Comments: SUPER HOT DAY! Kept up the pace as well as I could, but the heat was quite intense.Legs felt good, but several bruises and blisters made the run more difficult. Run
Comments: This race made me change my practice of riding / running without socks. Blisters were a minor issue toward the end of the run. Longer distances will be a problem without some serious callouses. What would you do differently?: Most of my running to this point was done on an elliptical runner machine at the gym to lessen the impact on my joints. Time to invest in running and seeing if my joints will hold up, and begin to develop more callouses. Post race
Warm down: Walk around in the heat and try to get my blood pressure down... What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of adequate training. Event comments: Nice venue. I've included this on my race schedule for 2007. Last updated: 2006-12-26 12:00 AM

Got to race early and began checking my gear - one flat tire and a slipping gear. Rode the bike for 20 minutes, but couldn't identify the cause of the slipping chain in the dark...
This is my first Olympic distance race...
No opportunity to warm up swimming, as event is a single-file, dock start in a river. Ran around football field for 30 minutes waiting for start time.
