Event warmup:

Holy crap! We took MARTA to the raceand the train broke down one stop short. We got out and there was this HUGE escalator that broke down with us on it! We had to jump over to the stairs! It started rolling backwards. No one was hurt.
Walked to the race and we were way behind where we wanted to be based on pace. We started about 8:00 after the leaders. The atmosphere was great, and it was awesome being a part of the huge wall of runners. I loved it!
As a treat I met Danny Dreyer from the Author of ChiRunning. I think I freaked him out a little because I was psyched to meet him. We watched a short presentation by him and I bought the video.

Comments:

I didn't race this. My Garmin was out of batteries and all I had was my phone. Ijust picked a nice easy pace and ran. I stuck with the 4:30 Marathonerspace group, but the pace group left for the marathon. I just raced relaxed. CV was great, muscular end is now a heavy limiter for me for pace.
The first mile felt like dirt, the next six were fine. The next 3 or so sucked, and the last few miles I felt great. I tweeked my left hammy at the end of the run but no to badly.
Nutrition was managed OK. One Gu per 20 minutes. I wish they had Powerade to make the 400/hour work.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, this was a training run. I think I can break 2 hours if I can focus on a 1/2M.
Post race
Warm down:

Two ice packs to the hammies. Stretching for about 20 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This race, for being so big, was poorly supported. They ran out of Powerade and water was hard to get at. That sorta hacked me off as the race wasn't cheap. Maybe they can work the kinks out later. If I wan't to do well in this race I need to run more hills.
2007 after IMAZ and 2008 are going to be about adding muscle mass and trimming fat. Gaining speed. I don't think I want to race a Mary until I can push for 4:15 or 4:00.

Event comments:

I rated this a 4 because it was cool racing with so many people and being part of a major event. They need more volunteers and more water. They didn't even have mile markers for the1/2M!

Performance: Good
10k was 1:02 so I had a negative split.
Course: Hilly. This wouldn't be so bad if the race was well supported. The hills were rough on my hamstrings. I tried to lean into hills but I've been training on flats for IMAZ so this was tough.
