Overall Rank = 362/697
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/21
Pre-race routine:

woke at 4:45am ate a protein shake and some oatmeal. Did my moring coffe and everyday routine. Bags packed the night before..bike and bags loaded and ready to go.
Event warmup:

Did some achilles and hamstrings strecthes. Did'nt get to ride and jog like I wanted to.
Swim
  • 10m 38s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

My first tri and I had planned on getting a smooth steady pace set and picking a draft partner. I was kicked, swam over by some, and swam over some myself. All in all a great experience and a I better "time" than I expected.
What would you do differently?:

I have to spend more time in the pool, My breathing was very poor and not consistant.I won't ever start in the rear of the pack again. I found that I am alot faster than others in my age group.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Ran the complete distance to transition area. I timed the swimed to the end of the sand and then started my T1 time.Did'nt try to leave my shoes on my pedals. Only had a short run to the bike start.
What would you do differently?:

I will learn to mount the bike with the shoes in the pedals.I have to buy another pair of shoes my current pair is to tight to do this.
Bike
  • 26m 11s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.92 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike, I passed alot of riders... I mean alot of riders.. I was only passed by 7 or 8 riders in the entire course.
What would you do differently?:

I did'nt stay in tri position as much as I should have. I passed alot of riders 3 and 4 wide that were weaving and riding with friends. I did'nt have the confidence to stay in tri position in that situation.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Did'nt have rack position. Leaned bike on curb. Ran to T2 area, changed shoes and ran out.
What would you do differently?:

Most definitely go to Transition area upon arriving the event and set up my area, then go to registration.
Run
  • 20m 47s
  • 2 miles
  • 10m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

These 2 miles was hard on me. My right achilles was burning after the first 1/4 mile. I stop and strecthed. Between the 1 mile and 1 1/2 miles I believe half the people I flew by on the bike were passing me by now. Finally I felt good for the last 1/2 mile and did pass a few runners back.
What would you do differently?:

I should have taken a few moments in the t2 area and strecth my achilles. I believe the time spent doing this would have been less than the time lost.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around for 5 minutes, did some achilles strecthing, drank 2 small cups of water and ate a orange.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I believe my training inconsistancies prove to be a factor of todays result.

Event comments:

This was my first tri event and cannot honestly evaluate the race due to lack of experience. I loved it and will definitely do it again next year. It was a great 1st Tri for me. I loved the finish and actully before the finish there were spectators and fellow racers cheering you on. I set my goal at 1hr 12 minutes, and I finished in 1hr 4 min 12 sec. I am already changing next years goal to mid 50's.Yeah that sounds good.
