Pre-race routine:

Chilly morning so I tried to stay warm. I covered up with Sun Screen. and waited for my start Time. I ate aone Gu 15 minutes prior to the start.
Event warmup:

I did nothing. I knew it was going to be a long day so I was more concerned with getting through the day than an efficient start.

Comments:

I was happy with my effort I might have went out too fast because my run leg was slower than I projected. I was bery haapy with my effort though.
What would you do differently?:

Work on spending more time in the aero position
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

I was projecting a 2:30 transition which I hit. I think my transition was slightly lower than average which I will take any day.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting down to under two minutes.
Run
  • 2h 34m 6s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

My run was 15 ro 20 minutes slower than I projected. This could be because I went thrugh the bike too hard or it could be becuase I didn't do enough bike/run brick workouts. My thighs were stiff the first couple of miles so ran 6 minutes and walked 1. I was able to stretch that to run 9 minutes then walk 1. The last 4 miles it was all I could do to run 5 minutes then walk 2.
What would you do differently?:

I am going to research this, but I am thinking more Brick Workouts. Maybe some more timed runs when I am fatigued. The closest thing to an injury I suffered was some sever chaffing under my left arem. I will definately put some Body Glide next year.b
Post race
Warm down:

Warm down? I collected my gear and went to the beer tent.

Event comments:

Really happy with the bike leg and bike/run transition. I felt I could have done better on the run. I was using this race as a test for the full 70.3 course. I see no reason that I cannot do the triathlon next year with a little help with my swimming. I would like to do two long course races next year and three after that.

Course: This was a new course due to road construction. The route did not include the two steep climbs but it also did not include the 15 mile downhill at the end. My friend felt that the course was not as challenging although his bike time did not reflect it. I guess I will find out next year when they go back to the original course. The weather was quite chilly at the start this year. The first two downhills left me shivering.
