Swim
Comments: Went really well. Purposely kept it slow and behind the guy already in my lane to make sure I swam at a pace I could carry all the way through. Only got tired in the final 50 - 75m so I'm really happy with that! What would you do differently?: on the day - nothing! Transition 1
Comments: T1 was long as expected. I came out of the pool building, pulled on some sandles and ran to the transition area as I pulled on my top (even got photo's to prove it!). Once there dragged on lid, shades, sat down to put on socks and shoes then grabbed bike and ran up the hill to the mounting point. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Next race I'll be using tri cycling shoes that I won't have to wear socks with so should ease through this a lot easier. Bike
Comments: A hard ride not made any easier from the road surface being shocking in places! It proved I need to work on my hills and upping my speed across the board. What would you do differently?: Drink more during the ride. Transition 2
Comments: Easy change compared to T1 - rack bike, lid off, shoes off, running shoes on ..... RUN!! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Next race will have elastic laces. Possibly look at running without socks. Run
Comments: Got a cramp in my left quad by middle of second loop. Tried running through it but it just moved to other interesting places. Then the right one wanted in on the action too. Took on some water in the last mile and it really helped. Really glad I'd done a few brick sessions. What would you do differently?: More water in the cycle. Post race
Warm down: walked about, stretched, massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of hydration, lack of consistent training, dragging an extra stone of fat around that I don't need! :) Event comments: Great race to have as my first. Competitors and marshals were falling over themselves to help out - thanks to Steve for offering advice and gels, "Camper Van Man" for providing so much info and Clare for being a competitor I vaguely knew! :) As this was my first race, I went with two things in mind - 1) it's an information gathering exercise, so just see what happens and 2) don't race with anything that you haven't trained with. All of which seemed to work well and I really enjoyed it. Still can't get over how friendly and helpful people were! I'd end up having 5 min chats with people I didn't even know and a 10 minute walk to the car for kit would take over half an hour!! :) Last updated: 2007-01-01 12:00 AM

Panic, run around lots, worry about not having the right kit etc etc
Need to work on pre-race nutrition and hydration.
