Swim
Comments: This was a good swim. Non wetsuit swim so my plan was to take it easy and not push the swim. Found a group of 4 guys and we were all swimming about same pace and just hooked onto the group. Happy with my time. I could have passed them and maybe knocked off about 1 minute but then i would have used more energy. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 1
Comments: nothing, i swam without a jersey and i knew it would take a few extra seconds to get on the shirt since i was wet, no issues here Bike
Comments: Plan was to get comfortable and when i hit 290 start hitting it harder. I took the larger hills in easier gears and all the rollers i hit hard and recovered on topside of each and on down hills. I never felt like i pushed outside my limits on the bike. Near the end i saw that i could have broke into the 2:30's, but this would have made me hit the hills (last two) really hard, decided to hold back and save for the run. On a side note, half way through the course some of the lead 30-34' agers passed me briefly. What pissed me off was for about 10 miles they were drafting off each other and taking turns leading, eventually one of them just lost their legs and i passed him told him in passing that he had a really nice breeze for sometime. I never saw this person again. I was hoping they would get a penaly (for my buddy todde (jwithyco) since they were in his ag. I got passed by 4 people in my ag, then i inturn repassed 2 of them near the end. What would you do differently?: Maybe hit the hills harder, happy with bike Transition 2
Comments: had some issues getting my socks on Run
Comments: I came into this hoping for a 1:40 to 1:50. The heat ruined that for me, not really i just could never muster anything past 8:15 for the first 5 miles, hit the really big hill on the back side. I walked the majority of this and after that it was a run/walk race for me. One day i will get the run i know i can do. In my opinion this run is harder than BSLT, there are more hills that you have to deal with constantly vs buffalo springs you get quite a bit flat section. What would you do differently?: more hill work and run in later day heat more Post race
Warm down: took about 5 minutes to get my witts about me again, then post race massage and food, drinks and a beer. Best of all this was a 14 minute improvement from Buffalo Springs and a 8 minute PR at this distance. What limited your ability to perform faster: My training has been great this year, the one area it has not. nutrition, i have struggled all year and i am a constant 166-169. i should be around 150. Event comments: Great race and support, tough course but i definately liked the challenge. I will do this one again next year, it will be a 70.3 race, sponsered. Last updated: 2007-01-02 12:00 AM

normal bagel with peanut butter. water with nuun for pre race hydration. 1/2 power bar about 1 hour before start. Transition set up quickly, spoke with a few people but mainly hung out by myself, I had some butterflies for some reason.
small swim just before start and jog to get the race off my mind
