![]() Swim
Comments: The swim was fine; not great, not terrible, just fine. I wish we had been swimming clockwise rather than counterclockwise due to the sun, but oh well. I had a hard time sighting on the way into shore because there were so many buoys in the water (course markers plus the normal beach swim area buoys) that I was using the wrong ones. Oh well; I went a little off course but not bad. I think the long run up the beach and then all the way along the T area is included in the swim split. Even with a 2:04 avg, I was still 3rd in my AG, so I'm assuming the long run is lumped in there as opposed to in T1. And, as always, I could've done without the weeds. Ick. What would you do differently?: Not stand up so soon on the way in. I usually swim until my hand hits sand and then I stand. Well, this lake is so shallow that my hand hit sand about 50 yds out. I should have dove back in and swam more, but I thought I would just run. Big mistake! I was dying by the time I reached the shore. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Once we finally got into the T area, this was fine. No major issues to report. Just got the wetsuit off, shoes on, helmet and glasses on, and off I went. Decided to go without socks again. What would you do differently?: Not exhaust myself running out of the water... ![]() Bike
Comments: This was a really good bike for me. I knew the course was nearly flat, so I decided I was going to push it on the bike and just see what I had left for the run. This is a PR pace for me, so I was happy with that. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Great course, great weather, great ride. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I followed Autumn in so it was nice of her to locate our rack for me! :) Nothing particularly remarkable here either. What would you do differently?: Nothing other than generally move faster. ![]() Run
Comments: Well, my legs were tired after the bike, but I figured I'd see what I could do on this run. I went out hard for the first mile, and I felt good the first 1.5 miles or so. But then I really started to get overheated. I didn't drink much at all on the bike because I was trying to prevent the normal sloshy stomach/cramps that I seem to get. My pace really fell off in the second half of this run, but it still was sub-10's overall, so I'm happy with that. What would you do differently?: Drink a bit more on the bike. Not go out so hard on the first mile of the run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around looking for BT-ers, got results from one of those cool result receipt printers, filled my face with yummy post race food. What limited your ability to perform faster: No real taper, hydration issues. Event comments: This is a great race! Very well done and lots of nice little extras. Great BT presence too! So nice to see everyone! As a follow up, I set a new PR in T3 for downing my Like It size of mint chocolate chip at ColdStone. I'm sure it was no more than 1:30. Yummy. Up before the birds and on the road to Andover. It was a little over an hour to the race site from my house. Had the normal toast with pb for breakfast, along with some gatorade and water. Met up with trigirlkris and autumn in the parking lot and walked over to the T area to set up.
Not a lot; walked around with Autumn a bit looking for other BT-ers. Saw quite a few but missed a couple too, unfortunately. Finally got the wetsuit on and swam around a little bit. I think they said the water temp was only about 71 or so, but it sure felt a lot warmer than that.
