Swim
Comments: Worst swim of the year. Between the heat and the crowd, I couldn't catch a break. Caught a huge crowd from the wave in front of me by the first turn buoy and had to slow down to get around them. About a quarter of the way back I got too hot and my stomach started to cramp. It was just a hot, crowded, miserable swim. What would you do differently?: Drop a glacier in the lake. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Even though my stomach was upset from the swim I still took the time to slam a Hammer Gel. Glad I did. What would you do differently?: Learn flying mount. Bike
Comments: Really happy with the bike. Went out really hard for the first 4 miles and then had to settle myself down. Picked a little 29 yo in front of me and never let her get away. Was only passed by one person from my age group on the bike (and she was the winner!) Was really happy to be passing all the younger women from two waves in front of me! he! he! he! What would you do differently?: Push harder up the last hill. It had been a while since I rode the course and I kind of forgot where I was. Once I realized I was back at 115 I wished at had pushed harder up the last hill. Oh well...little miss 29 didn't get away. ;) Transition 2
Comments: Down right speedy transition for someone who is usually 'lost in transition'. What would you do differently?: Learn flying dismount. Run
Comments: Hit my goal of being under 30:00. :) I'm not sure how. I started out a pretty tight but I loosened up after about 5 minutes. My legs felt okay but I was just so hot. I haven't been running enough to be acclimatized to that kind of heat. Had to really control my breathing to keep from stitching too. I walked two times but only for a few seconds each. Poured water on my head at each stop to try and cool off. Luckily, my knee never started hurting. So my knee wasn't the limiter just my lack of running base. What would you do differently?: Not get injured. Of course, if I had known I was in 2nd place going into the run I probably would have pushed A LOT harder. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a couple of cold towels and cooled off. Hung out with the BT/QCTC crew and got a post-race ART session from dr. What limited your ability to perform faster: 8+ months of injuries and having only returned to running in the last few weeks. Event comments: Overall, I am very happy with my race. This is the first race this year that I've run pain-free (knee pain, that is!) all year. yay! Now, let's see if I can pick up some speed before Wilmington next month. ;) Last updated: 2007-01-03 12:00 AM

Laid in bed waiting for the alarm to go off at 4:50. Got up, ate a bagel w/peanut butter and drank a water. Got to race site about 5:30,set up transition and chatted w/ folks.
My Sports Chiropractor was there so he gave me a pre-race ART session. That was the extent of my warmup.
