Comments: First started out and completely forgot nose plugs. I had them around my neck, just not on. Duh! Fumbled my way with the rest of the novices to the first left. Started to relax a bit and made it quickly to the next left. Then people were dropping out and I'm passing people and it's ridiculous. It really bouyed my confidence - I know that's wrong. Then for some reason I was able to put my head down and get in a few nice strokes. What would you do differently?: Put on noseclip at start. Practice more. I was also unprepared for the chop caused by other swimmers, so I will need to work on that somehow. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I'm pretty happy with this. Compared to other times, and knowing few poeple wore wetsuits, I did pretty good. As soon as I was running out the water I had my cap/goggles/noseclip off and had taken my suit halfway off. I was using a bento box for the first time, which helped because I put my sunglasses in there. One less thing to worry about in transition. What would you do differently?: Hussle more. ![]() Bike
Comments: This went great. My new cadence computer keeps me honest and I tried to shift intelligently and keep up an even, smooth, pedal. I passed a LOT of people because I was in the novice division and many people were on mountain or hybrid bikes. Good confidence booster to whip by so many. I let off a bit as I entered the park to give my legs a break. What would you do differently?: I didn't bike much this summer because of the half-marathon and I could stand to improve my bike fitness. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I skidded to a stop at bike dismount and ran with everything I had. I also had new speed laces which are great. Took the time to put on socks (rode sockless) and grab my water bottle. Didn't feel as heavy legged as in past, so I must be doing something right. What would you do differently?: Carry my hat and number belt and put on as a I run out. I've had faster T2s, so I will have to think about it. ![]() Run
Comments: I'm bummed about this. I walked a few times, which I didn't want to do. I was very hot at that point and also my tummy was sloshing and I got a cramp. What would you do differently?: Many things, yet to be determined. Figure out why I was retaining water in my stomach, toss water on myself to cool down next time! Work on my inner talk that allows myself to walk, need to be more positive and just get it done. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked a bit and stretched a bit, but not enough. Knew lots of people today, so chatted with as many as I could. What limited your ability to perform faster: Did not peak for this race, it was really pushed aside for the half-marathon. Also, I slacked off BIG TIME in the last two weeks. I would like to see how I can do if I plan my training better (and don't slack off...) Event comments: A nice race and I will definitely do it again next year. Last updated: 2007-01-04 12:00 AM

Had my usual PB toast and lemonade breakfast and got dressed. Forgot my banana, which my husband grabbed for me and brought to the car. Totally forgot my coffee, so I drank an Enviga which was okay. But I could have used the coffee.
When we got to the venue, I was cutting the time a lot closer than planned. The ride took about 20 minutes longer and then we ended up parking about 1/3 mile from the transition area. I was carrying everything, but gave my wetsuit and towel to my husband and he sent me off. I didn't realize until then how far away it was, and worried I wouldn't get the wetsuit in time. I basically freaked out and I am sure looked like a loon rushing around looking for Bob. He eventually showed up though and I managed it all with just enough time.
An unplanned bike ride back to the car looking for Bob. Got in the water and swam a few yards to the get wet and acclimated to the water.
