Run
Comments: My goal was 2 hours and to try to start with a 9min/mile pace. It was so congested at the beginning that the first mile took 10:48. Not good. Had to play catchup the rest of the way. It did thin out a bit after mile 3, but congested again just before and after the race track. Felt good most of the way. This was my longest race ever. Previous long was a 10K last year, my first half year of running. Had a Hammer gel at miles 3,6, and 9 as planned, but need to get a fuel belt for water as I cannot get enough water from the paper cups, even though there were plenty of water stations. I think I must have run an extra 1/2 mile by dodging the walkers and slower runners. Mile Splits -- 10:53-9:20-9:12-8:43-8:39-9:53(bathroom break)-9:11-8:55-9:11-8:58-8:41-8:56-8:59-0:49 What would you do differently?: Send in a time to get seeded in a better corral. Post race
Warm down: Walked the line to get free goodies, got pic taken, found training partner, and stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Having to run around so many people. I was suprised at the number of people walking from the start. Also, the walkers seemed to be all over the course, wish they would stay to the right or left or something. Really was dodging people the whole way. Felt like a running back again.lol Event comments: Very organized race with lots of extras and goodies. Definately more than just a road race. Woke up at 4:30 EST, I'm from CST so this was a slight adjustment. Ate Clif Bar, Banana, Apple, and Banana Bread.
Parked, hit the Hilton Hotel to use the bathroom. Found our corral, stood around, hit the porta potties twice. The second time when I came out the field was moving toward the start line. It still took us over 30 minutes to get there and I had to go to the restroom again, but too late. Note to self: Ease up on the pre-race water consumption.
