Pre-race routine:

Tried to make sure I was well hydrated yesterday. Didn't eat super great. Went to bed at 10pm, was up at 11pm, back to sleep at midnight. Woke up at 6am. Had a bowl of mini-wheats with milk for breakfast, and took a couple extra-strength ibuprofen. Drove to the race site and parked. Got there about an hour before the start of the race.
Event warmup:

Did some jogging up and down the street, and some stretching. Then keeping warm for about 10 minutes before the actual start of the race.

Comments:

This was a really good run. D was going to run with me until I started walking, and I think I started out quicker than I should have. After about 5 minutes I sent him ahead, because I needed to pull back on the speed. At mile 2, they had water. I had some, mostly for the experience of taking it out of the volunteers hands. Ended up practically choking on it. Definitely need more practice with that. Mile 2 was my fastest mile. Mile 3 I slowed down a bit, but I would have beat my 5K time by at least a couple of minutes. Don't remember much about mile 4 and 5. I do know I must have either missed the 4 mile marker, or not pushed the button enough on my watch, so I'm not sure what the splits are there. The last mile was rough, I did more walking than I'd hoped for. Finished strong with a good kick, and passed a few people on the way.
What would you do differently?:

Not get injured three weeks before the race. (And if I do get injured, don't be a weenie and skip the cross training.)
Do a better job of pacing at the beginning. That 8.42 mile looks good, but it was probably at the expense of longer miles near the end.
Eat better the day before. Not sure if this played a factor, but it's something I need to watch.
Post race
Warm down:

Little bit of stretching. Walking into the building to get warm.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training the last month. I think a sub-60 10K is definitely doable with a little more consistent training.

Event comments:

This was the inaugural race. The mayor was at the starting line cheering everyone on. If they keep doing this one, it will likely make our list for a winter race to do.
