![]() Swim
Comments: Got a good start and stayed on the side of the pack to avoid congestion. Need to stay focused on EXHALE. Overall felt much more confident in the swim than last year's races. What would you do differently?: Need to keep head down and stay in rhythem longer at the start. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: 3 minutes included uphill run to T-1 of about 200 yards. Got into shoes and quickly mounted bike without strapping shoes. Gained several places in transition. What would you do differently?: Start ratchet straps on shoes BEFORE mounting. Tighted shoes ONLY on a down-hill portion of the course. Trying to do this on the uphill portion just caused me to loose a lot of time and even got passed by three bikes. Need to look into TRI-Specific shoes. ![]() Bike
Comments: Felt good coming out of transition. Didn't put the shoes on before mounting which reduced T-1 time, but struggled with getting them adjusted and tight for the first .25 mile which cost me more time than I saved. Felt a lack of power the entire bike portion (lost three places on the course, should have been able to gain). What would you do differently?: Until I get TRI-specific shoes, I need to at least lock the ratcheting strap on the shoes BEFORE mounting the bike. Need more bike time working Hills - very low power right now. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Very good T-2. Caught two riders that were 50 yards ahead on the bike going into transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing! ![]() Run
Comments: Took water bottle with me off the bike and hydrated on the course to the first water stop at mile 2.5. Dumped the water bottle at the water stop and kept going. Walked on the steeper up-hills, ran the flats and downhills. Strategy worked to conserve energy for the flatter portions and was able to catch two slow and steady runners with the energy saved. Finished with a very strong, long stride downhill. Caught one more runner with much longer legs! What would you do differently?: Need to improve conditioning to be able to stay running entire course. More leg strength (Hills)! ![]() Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Leg STRENGTH (Power). Felt weak on the bike and hill portions of the run. Event comments: Very fun race, EXCELLENT starter for the season and will continue to be my bench-mark for off-season training effort. Last updated: 2007-01-05 12:00 AM

Quick, short spin on bike to check start gearing (uphill start). Changed into wetsuit and swam about 200 out and back.
